1st Grade News

October 10th-14th

Be sure to create an account in SEESAW asap!

This year we're going to use a new tool to share what we're learning in class called Seesaw. Your child will have his or her own learning journal, and you can get notified when your child or I add new items. It's completely private -- only you can see your child's journal outside of class. I will be mainly using this at this time to share photos of the happenings in 1st grade, but will hopefully be teaching the kids to post their own entries during the 2nd semester. If I take a photo with more than one student I will tag everyone in the photo. But things specific to your child will not be on the group board.

1. Go to https://app.seesaw.me/s/585-873-383 in any web browser.

to sign up -- it takes just 30 seconds.

2. Choose your child from the class list and create an account.

3. After you’ve been approved by your child’s teacher, you’ll get access to their journal.

Once you sign up, you can download the Seesaw Parent app for iPhone or Android, or access your child's journal on the web.

This week

What we are learning about:

Spelling: We just tested on Unit 5. Graded tests will be coming home on the 14th. Next week Unit 6 words will be tested on Thursday the 20th. 1st quarter ends this week so we will have our Homework Hero Party on Monday the 17th for anyone who turned in 4/5 spelling homework packets.

Math: We have finished chapter 2! Chapter 2 test will be next Monday the 17th. Review is coming home over the weekend. Students who turn it in on Monday will be celebrated!

Science: living/non-living things and Plant unit

Social Students: Finish Community Helpers Project and present to Kindergarten class.

Reading: Reading folders coming home next week. Inside will be a book for your child to read with you. When he/she has mastered the book, they will return the folder to receive a new book. Instructions will be inside the folder.

This should help you with your book-it goal of reading 100 minutes each week. Don't forget to be writing in the amount of time you read each week on your calendars found in your take home folder.

Writing: Narrative stories using the complete writing process.
