Connecting Families to School - March 2016

Tardiness - School Start Time - 7:25 am

Parents should be dropping off their children before 7:25 in the morning. Our school doors open at 7:25 am. Students are required to be in their homeroom seat by 7:35 in order to be considered on time.

Each morning robocalls are sent out to families whose child is tardy or absent. To ensure that you will receive these calls, see the details below under "Skyward" on how to get online parent access and the directions to update your information.

Starting next school year, students will be given a consequence of an office detention for every three tardies. Now is the time to start the habit of coming in on time at 7:25 am.

Team 6-3 News

On Thursday, April 14th, Villa Nova Team 6-3 will hold it’s Second Annual Glitz ‘N’ Glam dance from 5-7 in the Villa Nova cafeteria. Start looking through your closet for your fancy or sparkly clothes OR buy a tiara or fedora at the dance. That night, you can wear a smile that will light up the room and “walk the red carpet” to have a glittery photo taken with friends or dance to the D.J.’s music under a glittery disco ball. Mark your calendars, Glitz n Glam on April 14th!

We are beginning a new incentive program this week. Each week, teachers will choose one of WMS’s rules to focus on and students who have complied every day will be eligible to win a prize on Friday. In an effort to start off the program, "Do It Right", with enthusiasm a 6” personal color tv will be given to one of the cluster’s students who wear their school I.D. all day, every day (temporary Ids not eligible)! Subsequent prizes will be smaller and depend on availability! Students will be rewarded for doing what they should already be doing, so participation should be easy. Only those students who follow the target rule for the entire week are eligible to win the weekly prize. Check future newsletters for updates on our, “Do It Right” program.

Team 6-4 - the Sea Stars News

Team 6-4 will be hosting the SPRING FLING school dance on Wednesday, March 23 in the Villa Nova Building from 5-7pm. The cost will be 5 dollars. There will be pizza, snacks, and drinks for sale. A school ID is required.

In English class, students are composing their final copies of their personal narratives. Next, they will be learning how to write an argumentative essay, which will focus on comparing two pieces of text to prove their argument. Students are also continuing to complete homework online through No Red Ink and reading three books independently. Students are also reminded to keep studying their Common Core vocabulary words to help assist them on the upcoming PARCC assessment.

In Science class, students will be finishing up the last unit of ecosystems. This in depth study opened students eyes to the impact of humans and natural disasters on ecosystems. The next topic of study will be Earth and Space. We will be focusing on patterns of the Earth, Sun and the moon. The patterns of the seasons will also be covered. The role of gravity will be studied. Finally, investigations concerning the scale properties of objects in the solar system will be completed.

Team 7-3

We are going on a field trip to Museum of Work & Culture on March 15th. Students will be led on a journey from a 19th century Quebec farmhouse to the floor of a New England textile mill and then watch a living history presentation explaining the difficulties faced adapting to a new culture and lifestyle.
