Space Race
United States VS Soviet Russia
About the Space Race
In the 60's, the U.S. and Russia fought for the spot of number one in the race to put a man into space. John F. Kennedy vowed to put a man on the moon by the end of the decade. As we know, America won the race thanks to NASA. NASA is an association dedicated to space travel created in retaliation to the Soviet Sputnik. We sent a man into space by 1961 and landed a man on the moon in 1969.
Parallels to the Cold War
There were many similarities between the Cold War and the Space Race. They were both technically between many countries, but the only real competitors were America and Russia. They were chances to prove that democracies were better than communism. They both involved high tech and many of the top scientists. And, of course, both of them the U.S. won eventually.
