Honoring Our Service Members
HMES salutes all who have served or continue to serve! We would like to invite current and former military service members who are part of our HMES family to our 2022 Veteran's Parade on Thursday, November 10th at 9:30am. Military family members will join their student(s) and parade through the hallways for a clap-out to honor our military service guests.
Military guests could be parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. Students will walk with their family member!
Please RSVP before November 9th. Those participating should report to the office and will be guided on where to go at that time.
Report Cards
Barring any technical glitches, report cards will be available through your ParentVue account on Wednesday, November 9th.
Socktober a HUGE success!
Thank you to all those who donated socks during October! We were able to collect and deliver 1,470 pairs of socks to SERVE this week! Thank you also to Mrs. Croisetiere for leading the way on this donation initiative!

K-2 Update:
Our K-2nd graders’ focus last rotation was following rules (why we have them, why they are important, etc.) and listening to others (identifying and practicing our active listening skills.)
We played games to share our knowledge about rules at school, home and in the community. Students identified how rules help us all. We read a story about rules at school that took us on a fun scavenger hunt.
We learned what it means to be a good, active listener and why it's important. Active listening involves our eyes (good eye contact), our posture (calm bodies, sitting or standing calmly), limiting distractions, and nodding our head to show we are thinking about and understanding what's being said. These are important skills to practice no matter where we are! Students did some role play to practice these skills.
Next, we're learning about how to be SUPER friends (friendship/social skills) and how relationships foster a sense of belonging in our school and community.
3-5 Update:
Our 3rd-5th Graders learned about the definition of bullying in their Guidance Leadership Lessons this past rotation with the helpful acronym: Boooo
B - being mean
O - over and over
O - on purpose
O - one-sided
O - on-going
Next month’s focus for 3rd-5th graders is problem-solving and an introduction to being a Stand-Up Bystander!
Our SCA recognized Red Ribbon Week during the last full week in October as a week for healthy choices and a focus on saying No to Drugs, with a school-wide pledge wall and a spirit week. It was fun to see students in all their red to support a healthy lifestyle!

Communication System Change
Laptops
If you have communicated with your child's teacher about a desire to have your child bring his or her laptop home each day for educational purposes, please remember to bring it back charged each day and with the power cord!
Lexia
Lexia is one of many resources we use to continuously track our students' progress. While it may look like the program is mainly for practice, it helps us identify strengths and areas for growth for our students. Teachers are able to keep track of valuable data to guide their instruction and it has many resources that they use to fill in the gaps. When reviewing the data, students who are meeting their weekly usage are much more likely to make adequate if not substantial growth! Lexia is linked to the science of reading which has been around a while, but is once again gaining momentum.
Please allow your child to work independently so we can use the data to guide their instructional decision making!
