Media Center News

Let's Celebrate! The Library is a Hub!

This year, my goal was to OPEN up the library to any teacher or student to use as needed. The media center is a central hub where students and teachers can get books , do research, read during reader's workshop, and collaborate. I am so happy that you have all allowed your students to do this! We see an average or 20 extra students a day that come to get materials! Yay!

Book Fair- April 20th-24th

Please join us for the book fair the week of April 20th-24th. Staff can preview on Monday morning (April 20th) to fill out your wishlist slips. Students will shop during library time, during open shopping times, and during Grandparent's Day!

Skype in the Classroom

Have you ever wanted to talk to another class across the country or to a famous author? It's easy to do! Set up your account on the computer ( and create a "Skype name." Then download the Skype app on your iPad. You will have to know the other person's Skype name to call them. Your iPad's camera and Apple TV will be all that you need to do it! Check out pictures below of Mrs. Luck's class calling author, Nina Crews! We found out that she is the daughter of Donald Crews (Shortcut)!

Makerspaces....Thinking Ahead!

Makerspaces are starting to explode in libraries across the country. The Fishers Library and some HSE libraries are starting to offer opportunities for kids to "tinker" and problem solve with a wide variety of materials. Makerspaces include materials like K'nects, Legos, play dough, straws, tape, blocks, old electronics, etc. Anything goes! I would like to make kits that teachers can check out to help with the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) initiative as well as set these up in the library during checkout time. Let me know if you would be interested in being on this committee. This would be fun and informal and wouldn't be ready until next school year for students.

Examples of Makerspaces:
