Otsego Public Schools is launching OK2SAY during National School Safety Week, October 22-26, as a new tool in our school safety plan. While we believe Otsego Public Schools are safe, we are not immune from potential threats or dangers to our students or learning environment. We know that someone is usually aware of an activity before it happens; we want to empower students to speak up. That’s why we are joining forces with OK2SAY, a student safety initiative in Michigan that enables students to confidentially report potential harm or criminal activity aimed at students, teachers, staff or other school employees. We hope you can join us to learn more about this program at a Community Seminar on Tuesday, October 23rd, 7:00 p.m. at the OHS auditorium. Students will also hear presentations at school during this week.

New Phone Numbers
Phone numbers at Otsego Public Schools have changed! Don't worry, the old numbers still work, but we'd like to start transitioning to the updated information so we want to let you know now. This change was made over the summer to better communicate with 911 in the event of an emergency. Again, the old numbers will still work for the time being, however, we will soon be listing our new phone numbers on all of our communications, including newsletters, website and the district app. Please take note of the new numbers for this building and update your contacts. Thank you.

Keeping Our Kids Safe & Drug-Free
Next week we will join the national celebration called Red Ribbon Week. It is a time to focus on making healthy choices for our bodies and to celebrate being drug free. As a parent, there are so many current issues that make us fear the problems of the teenage years with our children. It’s helpful to know that there are many things we can be doing right now while our children are in elementary school to help them have good decision making skills in place for when the tough choices start to surface. One particularly good resource for parents regarding drugs, substance abuse, and how to help your children is https://drugfree.org/article/prevention-tips-for-every-age/. This article come from the website called Partnership for Drug Free Kids. It has up-to-date information about how to talk to your children about drugs, how to recognize signs/symptoms of drug use, and parenting advice. Stay up-to-date to be aware of what’s happening related to drugs. Check it out! It’s sure to be helpful now and for those pre-teen years that are just around the corner.
Please help your child participate in our dress up days next week for Red Ribbon Week, October 22nd – 26th.
