A Weekly Look at Grant Elementary School & the Grant PTA

How to Change the World (A work in progress)

Dear Grant Community,

With a brand new year approaching, I think it is so important to take the time to reflect, as well as to generate ideas to make the upcoming year meaningful. A few weeks back I shared this short video with the students at an assembly. It generated so much joy and inspired kindness among us all. As we head into 2019, I am committed to bringing kindness, gratitude, and empathy to the Grant campus every day through actions big and small. I wish you all a wonderful winter break filled with celebration, peace, and love.

Sincerely,

Amanda Grey

Calendar Clarification

Clearing up some confusion about the last day of school before Winter Break begins. If you received our calendar at the beginning of the school year, there was a typo. The last day is Friday the 21st, not Thursday as stated. Noon release this Friday! Happy Holidays, everyone!

Dine & Donate at Mountain Mikes, Last Day 12/19

Major kindness to Grant from Mountain Mike's Pizza. They've given us a three-day Dine & Donate event, Monday, December 17th through Wednesday, December 19th, that means today is the last day. Mountain Mikes is giving Grant 20% of whatever you spend. Mmmm...Did someone say pizza?

School Start Time

With the hustle and bustle of a school day morning, we understand how challenging it can be to get out of the door in order to arrive at school on time. As we head into 2019, please let the front office know if there is anything we can do here at school to support your efforts to get your students to school by 8:05 am. It is important to us that our students do not miss academic content at beginning of their school day and that they begin the day on the same page as their classmates.

Lost & Found Mound - Friday Deadline

It's that time of year when we have coats galore! The Lost & Found mound is on a growth spurt. Please come check the rack and bins by the multi today and tomorrow. If there is an item with a legible name on it, every effort will be made to return it. Otherwise, all remaining items will be donated this Friday!

Welcome Cinnabar's Donnie Frank to Grant Performing Arts

One of the most beloved Grant PTA Programs is our Spring Play. This year, we've hired Donnie Frank, who works for Cinnabar Theater and runs the McNear Program, to lead our group of performers. We are very excited to welcome her to Grant along with our wonderful volunteers who make the show happen.

A message from Donnie:

I am very excited to be working with Grant's Performing Arts program this Spring. I have 3 kids - Austin (Senior at PHS), Nick (8th at Cinnabar), and Elisabeth (6th at McNear). I have had a love of and participated in dance, music, and theater from a young age. I got involved on the directing side when my oldest began participating in PA at McNear, and am now going into my 8th year of directing. In addition to directing PA, I am a noon supervisor at McNear and am a seamstress and costumer. I am the Wardrobe Manager at Cinnabar Theater, and I costume productions for their Young Rep productions, for Petaluma School of Ballet, North Coast Ballet California, and at McNear. I thoroughly enjoy sharing the world of theater with children, exposing them to new music and dance, helping them to push their boundaries a little, and most of all feel proud of their work and confident about themselves up on the stage. I look forward to meeting you and your children this Spring!

Grant Performing Arts is Coming: Auditions 1/18

It's nearly time for Grant's Performing Arts Program to begin. Students in grades 1-6 are invited to participate in 'Adventures in Wonderland'. As Alice travels along trying to find her way home she makes new friends including a very late White Rabbit, a dutchess who uses too much pepper, a talking caterpillar, singing lobsters, a gryphon and a mock-turtle, a motley crew having an UnBirthday Party, a red Queen who wants to remove everyone's head, and a Cheshire Cat that keeps disappearing!

*The Casting Call will be held on Friday, January 18 afterschool.
Additional information and registration forms will be available when we return to school in January.

*We are looking for additional adults to assist with the rehearsal and performance process, please let me know if you are interested. Contact Donnie at donniemfrank@gmail.com.

A huge thanks to our volunteer crossing guards, who keep it safe & fun rain or shine. We appreciate you!
