Term 4 Week 6 Newsletter
25th November 2022
Principal's Message
Kia ora koutou katoa,
We are speeding along towards the end of the term and the 2022 school year. Our teachers and school leaders are busily preparing End of Year Reports ready to go home on 9th December with your child. The end of year report will give you important information about how your child(ren) are progressing and achieving in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. Additionally, each report contains a general comment detailing how your child(ren) is performing in other aspects of learning and school life including living into our school values.
There are a number of important dates and times to be aware of coming up as head into our celebrations for the end of the year.
The final Vibe Assembly for the year will be held on Tuesday December 13th at 9.15am in our school Hall. The Year 6 Pororoaki (Leaver's Assembly) will be held on Wednesday 14th December beginning at 9.15am also in the school hall. We look forward to seeing you there!
We have also been working hard preparing class placements for next year including our exciting new development of a Junior and Senior Te Reo Māori Bilingual class for 2023. The children will visit their new classes and meet their teacher for next year on Thursday 8th December in the morning. Parents and Caregivers you will receive a notice with this information on this day also. Please note that the last school day of the year is on December 15th and school finishes at 12.30pm on this day. (Please read further in this newsletter for other dates and events that are coming up). There is always a lot of exciting things happening at this time of year and 2022 is no exception.
It has been a difficult week in terms of weather and hosting our efforts to host our annual Athletic Sports Day with several postponements. Thank you for your patience and understanding. We have our fingers crossed for improved conditions and we are looking forward to this fantastic event being held on Monday (28/11/22). Parents, caregivers and whānau are of course most welcome to join us for this event. See you there!
I wish you and your whānau a happy and safe weekend.
Ngā mihi,
Matt

Athletics Days Next Week
Unfortunately this week the weather has not played it's part, so we will move both our Te Wao Nui o Tāne/Puawaitanga and Tipuranga Athletics Days to Monday. We will all be starting at 9am on the field and for a warm up and then moving off to our respective activities. We will send out a School Apps message on Monday morning confirming if Athletics Day is on or off. Fingers crossed for a finer day of weather!
A big thank you to those who have let us borrow their gazebos! It is greatly appreciated. If you are able to lend one to us for Monday, we thank you in advance.
Please download our School App for important messages
All of our West End School notices are going out via our school app. These include changes to programs (for example postponing athletics day due to rain) and reminders for events happening at school, so it is important that you have the app downloaded onto your device. If you haven't been receiving the email link to download the app, or if you are having problems with the app, please email Dan Minchin dminchin@westend.school.nz. The link you will be sent does expire.
This free mobile app allows parents to receive pop-up reminders and instant messages. These can run on smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices and are designed to help whanau keep up to date on school happenings. SchoolApps also allows parents to report absences online, receive instant alerts, check the calendar for upcoming events, view newsletters, log into Seesaw and this will also be a way to use Kindo. You will be able to personalise what information you wanted to subscribe to, such as notices from specific area teams, sports news, or groups such as Student Council or kapa haka. Remember to go to Alert Subscriptions (through the main menu - the three lines at the top left hand corner of the app) so you get specific alerts to our different groups within the school. You would only receive information directly relevant to those groups, but you will however receive whole school notifications when they are sent out.
A - MAZE - ING Tipuranga
This week during our Tipuranga whakamana rotations, some of us made mazes. We listed to 'The Gardener's Maze' by Dot Meharry. Then we discussed our ideas with our buddy, agreed on what we were going to create, and drew a plan. Mrs Blithe thought our mazes looked very much like our plans.
