October 2018
News from the Principal
We’ve had a busy start to our year! You have been great about our new start and end times this year (9:00 a.m. – 4:10 p.m.). Thank you for helping with quick pick-ups at the end of the day. Not waiting for late pick ups, helps our teachers and staff get home to their families too!
Conferences were a big success – lots of families were here at school to talk about their child’s progress. We are also trying to connect with you through our district Mobile App – if you haven’t gotten it, please do so on your smart phone. When you add McLean as a school, you will be able to see our calendar and stay up to date with the latest information.
Communication - Thanks for your input on our communication survey. We will use this information to best communicate with our families.
STUCO - Our students in grades 3rd – 5th found out who are our STUCO Representatives. At the end of this month STUCO will partner with PTA to celebrate Red Ribbon Week, Oct. 23-26. This event encourages our students to treat each other with respect and to respect themselves by making the choice to be drug-free. STUCO will be planning fun events for the week. Look for a flier with all the information to come home.
Fall Parties on Oct. 31! Each classroom will have an afternoon party hosted by room parents to celebrate Fall. No costumes will be allowed for this party.
PUSIC - Our other big event this month is Boogie on the Blacktop – October 25. Dinner starts at 5:00 and dancing at 6:00. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets for a great time with our school family. Look for details coming soon! Students may wear costumes that night.

Happy Fall Ya’ll! We are so excited to get this year going at McLean and had a record number of parents attend our first meeting in September. Remember that we meet the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm in the library and provide childcare in the gym during our meeting. We hope to see everyone there next month on October 9th!
Boogie on the Blacktop is Thursday, October 25th. PTA will have Little Caesar’s pizza, cookies, & water for sale from 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Whole pizzas will be $8 each and all other items are $1 each. Carrots and ranch will be FREE! Can’t wait to watch our students BOOGIE the night away! Students may wear costumes that night.
McLean T-shirts – T-Shirts should be in your hands sometime the first week of October. Thank you for purchasing to help support our school!

We are thrilled that our school is participating in the FLUency school health program!
You Should have received a flyer in your child’s take home folder.
This program will keep our school healthier by:
• Giving families a FREE Kinsa Smart Thermometer, a $20 value
• Showing families "what's going around" our school (it’s all anonymous)
• Reducing sick days through early detection and increased awareness
The more families that participate, the more successful the program will be in keeping our
students healthier throughout this school year.
Signing up for the program is EASY:
1. Visit kinsaforschools.com from your smartphone
2. Download the Kinsa app onto your phone
3. Search for our school name and join!
Thermometers will ship directly to our school in October and you will receive a notice when
they arrive.
Thank you for your help in keeping our students healthy and in class learning!
