NEW COVID TIMELINES FOR STAFF
Over the Christmas break, the CDC changed their guidelines for returning to the workplace when you have tested positive for COVID. On January 7, 2022, TEA adopted these changes for STAFF only at this time and they are as follows:
IF COVID positive, STAFF may return after:
1) If symptomatic, at least 5 days have passed since symptom onset, fever free for 24 hours, without fever-reducing medication and other symptoms have improved OR
2) For those with no symptoms, at least 5 days after the day they tested positive. So - the day your symptoms begin or the day you test positive, if asymptomatic, is DAY 0. You will then stay at home and off work on DAYS 1-5. You can return to work on/after DAY 6.
To the best of my understanding, the CDC adjusted timelines based on their increasing knowledge and understanding of how and when the virus is transmitted. According to the CDC, the virus is most likely spread either 1-2 days before symptom onset or within the first 2-3 days after becoming positive. Scientists are finding that isolating on days 6-10 does not make a difference since the virus is typically not spreading during this time frame.
On January 7, 2022, TEA also changed protocols for those staff members determined to be in close contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID and they are as follows:
STAFF who meet the close contact threshold with a COVID positive individual and are in one of the following groups, do not need to stay home:
1) have received all recommended vaccine doses, including boosters OR
2) confirmed COVID positive within the last 90 days and has fully recovered.
For staff NOT in one of the above groups and these staff continue to work on campus:
BISD will test 2 times post-exposure depending on when work days fall. If the 5th day is on a non-working day, the employee will be tested on the first day of their return.
Right now, students are still bound to the order set forth by DSHS with regards to staying home until 10 days have passed if COVID positive.

BHS HOPE SQUAD DEVELOPS TxDOT VIDEO
Mrs. Marvin had Hope Squad members develop and shoot a video for the Department of Transportation's PSA Contest. While they did not place, the video won a mini-grant in the amount of $750 to go towards the Senior Trip.
The students wrote, shot and produced a short video that emphasized the dangers teen drivers sometimes face - such as driving under the influence.

IMPROVEMENTS AT LHR'S ROBYN HILL GYM
Over the holiday break, the maintenance department worked to improve the L.H. Rather gym. In addition to new LED lighting, they began to repair the ceiling that gets damaged when balls hit it over the years during volleyball games.
The top picture shows the entire gym ceiling; on the left, you see the repaired section. The section on the right still needs to be repaired.
The picture on the bottom is a close-up of the repaired section – it really makes a difference!
