Principal's Message
Dear Cougar Community,
Next week students in first and second grade will be taking the STAR assessment. Kindergarten students will be taking the assessment later in October. This assessment gives teachers baseline data for each student. It is critical that students complete this assessment without assistance. The data is entered in to programs such as Dreambox, Smarty Ants, and Exact Path which will be added for students soon.
Please help your child log on to the program. Videos for how to do this are here:

I continue to appreciate the support families are providing their students at home!
Thanks to those of you who sent in pictures of your students learning! Keep them coming to ann.gwynn@mpark.net.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Gwynn
Testing at Home
Dear Families,
As you may already know, our school uses various assessments to help teachers understand what students know and what they are ready to learn next. Typically, these assessments are given throughout the school year to monitor student progress and are administered in the school setting. Part of our normal testing plan includes a fall assessment window and after careful consideration, we have decided to move forward with this plan but will be proctoring the assessments remotely.
Many students have already taken these assessments in previous school years and are likely familiar with the test, but helping students feel comfortable with a remote testing process is still very important. By adhering to the following testing recommendations, you are helping teachers gather important data that enables them to create more meaningful learning opportunities for your child based on their strengths. Not all assessments require being in a live virtual classroom environment; however, there may be assessments that a teacher will administer to your student during a ZOOM call with the video on to ensure a secure testing environment as much as possible.
Tips for families to prepare for a positive testing experience – MAPS!
•Monitor – Stay nearby where your child is testing to ensure they remain focused, but avoid hovering and distracting.
•Atmosphere – Provide a quiet area at a table or desk that is free from distractions. Students may need headphones for the assessment.
•Prepare – Ensure your child is well rested and has a good breakfast.
•Support – Students should complete the test independently. The purpose of these assessments is to help teachers understand what your child knows. Some assessments may be used for a grade. If they get stuck or ask for help, simply encourage them to choose the best answer and then move on to the next question.
Thank you for partnering with us through this assessment process. We appreciate your continued support this school year.
Pruebas en Casa
Estimadas familias,
