Rules for SnowPlay
Scott Becker
I wanted to remind families of the recess procedures regarding days with snow cover. To help maximize instructional time, students may dress out in snow boots and snow pants on Fridays to access areas of the playground other than the blacktop with snow cover. Teachers who are giving brain breaks during the day will use their discretion for allowing students to dress out in snow gear Monday through Thursday. Classroom teachers will communicate days in which students should bring snow gear.
Below you will find the District Policy for snow days. It is a pdf that you can save for later if you need the information included.
Receiving District Text Messages?
To ensure you will receive important alerts and notices via text messaging, we encourage all parents to make sure they have entered a cell phone number as a contact in PowerSchool. Most did this while updating Student Information prior to the start of the school year.
The second step to opt in and receive text messages is included below:
1. Start a new text message on your cell phone
2. In the 'To' field, type the number 67587
3. In the body of the email, type the word Yes
4. Hit SEND
5. You will receive a message back that says "You are now registered with the School Messenger notification service".

Annual AHERA Notice
Annual AHERA Notice
The Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act of 1986 (AHERA) requires each public school district to annually notify parents, staff, and employee groups of its asbestos management plans. A management plan is in place for Paddock Road and is available for review either at the school building or at the Westside Service Center, 9437 J St. Omaha, NE.
This school building was originally inspected in the1980’s and re-inspected by a certified inspector every three years thereafter. The three-year re-inspection and a ceiling tile inspection was conducted in 2019, and periodic surveillance will be conducted as required. No abatement activities are currently in progress or scheduled for the 2019-2020 school year at this building.
The Designated Person responsible for managing the District’s AHERA compliance and the contact person for questions or to review a management plan is the Director of Facilities, Russ Olsen (402) 390-8331.

Building Strong Families
What are strong families?
Some families seem to work better than others. These strong families seem to overcome problems successfully. They are comfortable to live with and group up in because family members practice positive, helpful ways of treating each other.
Qualities consistently found in strong families include the following:
- The adults feel close to each other and share authority. They support each other and feel proud of each other. They are able to share feelings, leadership and responsibility with each other. The single parent feels confident and in charge of the family.
- Family members are allowed to be different. These families don’t insist that all members think, feel or act just alike. Everyone is accepted as an individual, even when there are disagreements.
- The parent or parents set clear guidelines for the children. They explain the reason for rules and while they try to enforce rules consistently, they can be flexible at times
- The family faces problems and works together to solve them. Parents and children try to figure out together what is wrong. They talk about possible solutions. At some point one or both parents make a decision. Then everyone cooperates to make the solution work.
- Family members spend time together and in the community. They make time to do things together as a family. Just for fun. Often they are active in school, community and recreational organizations together.
- Family members have a sense of greater good in life. Shared beliefs and values strengthens the family and provide direction and purpose.
It takes hard work to build a strong family, but there are many strong families and yours can be one.
