We are SMART. We are KIND. We are KNIGHTS!
April 2023
Spring is officially here and we are ready for it! The end of the school year is approaching quickly. Students and staff are busy with all sorts of activities, such as standardized testing, honor/awards ceremonies, and class field trips, along with celebrations. It is an exciting and industrious time for all of us. Please know that we enjoy the wonderful times we spend with your student(s) and we hope they do, too.
Please reach out to the school if you have any questions, concerns, or compliments!
Sincerely,
Dr. Amanda Jarvis

BJHS Student Council Activities
Our Student Council has been very busy this year. Here are some highlights of their work:
National Vietnam War Veterans Day The council was invited to participate in this wonderful service event by creating art work on small “posters”. The theme of the art work is “Welcome Home.” Students could choose to draw/color anything that shows patriotism with a welcome home message thanking/commemorating Veterans in honor of National Vietnam War Veterans Day which is on March 29, 2023.
Bloomington/Normal Humane Society Students on the council were asked to donate/bring in old/unwanted t-shirts for this project. They cut the t-shirts into strips to make braided dog/cat toys. Completed toys are donated to the local Humane Society, along with presenting a toy or two to our very own Sir Lambeau, BJHS service dog.
Midwest Food Bank Service Project Field Trip (upcoming)
Students will volunteer and help with food sorting and distribution at this food bank in May 2023.
Terracycling has been going very well. All labeled shoeboxes for classroom collection have been created and distributed. Student Council members are assigned to volunteer to go to classrooms and empty items from the boxes every two weeks on Thursdays.
Knight Kash Store Members volunteer every other Friday at the store and have been doing very well. Volunteers rotate.
Student Council may be having a guest speaker at their BJHS Student Council Meeting in April from the Bloomington/Normal University of Illinois Cooperative Extension Office. She is planning to share volunteer service project information opportunities that students may choose to take part in during the summer months and/or outside of school time on your own. She will also discuss opportunities for leadership and service projects within McLean County 4-H programs.

Happy National Assistant Principals Week, April 3-7, 2023
Help us honor our assistant principals during National Assistant Principals Week in April! We want to thank Assistant Principals Aimee Oxarart, Jennifer Mangruem, and Eric Hall for helping us at BJHS. They come to work every day and do what is best for students. Thanks for everything! #APWeek23

Happy National School Librarian Appreciation Day, April 4, 2023
Happy School Librarian Day to our very own Michelle Chon and paraprofessional Amanda Pierce-Ghahramany! School librarians spend long hours keeping the library organized. They are also dedicated to helping our children find the resources they need to keep learning. School librarians are the people who create an environment where students can learn every day of the year. Their work is an impressive accomplishment.
In addition, they provide guidance and expose our youth not only to texts, print media, and literature but to digital resources and technology, too. These resources also connect them to libraries around the world. A school librarian’s ability to manage scores of media and a school full of students with numerous projects and schedules astounds us. Thank you both! #SchoolLibrarianDay
