St. Columba Catholic School - News every Friday - 10/16/20

St. Columba Families,

As we are in the heart of the month of October, I wanted to take the time to remind everyone that this is the month of the Rosary. All throughout this month, our students in K-8 will be praying a decade of the Rosary each day and all of our students, including our Preschool and Pre-K students, will be learning more about the Rosary and our Blessed Mother. I would like to give a special shout out to Xavier in 8th grade who is our Religious Coordinator on our Student Council. He has been doing a great job this month leading us through the Mysteries of the Rosary as we pray!

October is also a time of the year that I enjoy because our routines are now really well set and we are getting into some great learning! It is so great to be going from class to class to pop in and witness great teaching and student engagement! Today, I had the blessing of subbing for one of our teachers, and was reminded, as I frequently am, that our students are so wonderful! I had such a joy hearing from our 3rd-5th graders as they shared about what they learned about their classmates when they interviewed them and write miniature biographies about their friends!

Next week will be a pretty normal week, but there is no school on Friday for both Preschool and K-8 students. We will also have full days all next week! Hooray for it cooling down!

Here is a look ahead at the upcoming events on campus:

  • Monday, October 19:
  • Tuesday, October 20:
  • Wednesday, October 21:
  • Thursday, October 22:
  • Friday, October 23: NO SCHOOL: PRESCHOOL and K-8

STAR Results Sent Home

Today, STAR results were sent home with our K-8 students. If you have a child in they Hybrid model, the results will be sent home on Tuesday. If you have a child in the Online Only model, we will be mailing the results.

Parents, please review these results. While these are just a brief snapshot of your child's performance, they do provide good information, especially as we are getting our students back into school mode.

You do not need to sign and return them, but if you have questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to your child's teacher.

Pictures Sent Home

School Pictures were sent home today! Please ensure that your child passes them along to you.

If your child does not have pictures, it means they have not yet taken their pictures because they did not show up that day or they were in the wrong uniform.

We will be having 2 more days of pictures on November 4th and November 5th. This will be when our Preschool and Pre-K students take their pictures and will be makeup days for the rest of our K-8 students.

Halloween Plans

With Halloween right around the corner, we wanted to take the time to update what we are doing. Halloween falls on a Saturday, so we will be celebrating on Friday, October 30.

For all families, students may wear costumes to school that day. Please no masks that cover your child's face, no weapons, and no costumes that are disrespectful or unkind.

For Preschool Families, Ms. Lori will be sending out specific information about day of celebrations.

For K-8 Families, we are requesting that each child comes to school on the 30th with a Medium Sized pumpkin. Please do not spend more than $10 for the pumpkin.

We will be hosting a pumpkin decorating contest. The school will provide all of the materials, but students need to bring the pumpkin. We will also be providing candy as the students "trick or treat" from class to class. Please do not send additional candy or treats unless specified by your child's teacher.

More details to come as we get closer!
