Spina bifida is a neutral tube effect that occurs when a spinal cord or nerves fail to develop in the first month of pregnancy. A baby who has spina bifida is usually born with only a little bit of the spinal cord and can sometimes have symptoms or not have any symptoms. There are three types of spina bifida, myelomeningocele, spina bifida occulta, meningocele.
