ALB First Friday Newsletter
Welcome, February!
We are thrilled to welcome the month of February, and we are crossing our fingers for good weather for the rest of the year! This month brings Conference Week 2/12-2/16, which means students dismiss at 1:15 each day. Our goal is to meet with 100% of our families, and all conferences are student-led, so make sure you have a conference scheduled for next week!
Teachers are creating high-impact schedules for instruction next week on the shortened days. It is important that all children are at school every day if they are well! Please keep sick children home. There is more information below on how to combat this awful flu season.
Winter Break is 2/19-2/23 and all Marietta City schools are closed.
Have you taken the Parent Climate Survey? Click below or take it in the Media Center at the Book Fair during Conference Week next week! http://gshs.gadoe.org/parents
Please reach out to us if you have any questions, concerns, or just to say hi!
Kind regards,
Julie & Jillian

A Note from Nurse Chris
Hello from the front lines of the war on germs! The Burruss clinic has been a very busy place these last few weeks. Lately, I’m seeing 35-40 students daily. We’ve had lots of flu, stomach virus and strep. I’ve been working very hard to keep our students and staff healthy, but I need your help! First and foremost, please keep your child home from school if they’re ill. When they come to school sick, germs can spread on the bus, in the classroom, the cafeteria, on the playground, the media center, and yes, here in the clinic. Here are some helpful guidelines:
-Keep your child home if they have a fever over 100 degrees.
-If any vomiting or diarrhea in the last 24 hours, keep them home.
-If they have a body rash with a fever, they need to stay home.
-A child with a nagging or deep cough should stay home.
-A child with eye discharge that is thick mucus or pus should not come to school.
-If your child is irritable, crying, and unable to sit up and participate in regular classroom activities because they feel unwell, please keep them home.
Take every opportunity to educate your child about ways to stay healthy. Remind them to wash their hands at appropriate times. Teach them to ‘throw an elbow’ in front of their mouth and nose when they cough and sneeze. Please make sure they are getting to bed on time and remind them to eat breakfast at school if they are not eating it at home. Resistance to germs can fall if children aren’t getting enough rest and getting the proper nutrition.
