"Spare me the political struggles, as the whole earth is my homeland and all men are my fellow countrymen."--Kahlil Gibran, Lebanese-American author.
Our Path Note Topic
On Wednesday, November 10, 2021, a Commonwealth Court ruled that the PA Governor's and Secretary of Health's Mask Mandate for Schools is not "enforceable". As political power struggles go, the Governor and Secretary filed an immediate appeal that triggered a "Stay" on the court ruling.
The PA Secretary of Education emailed all superintendents to let schools know that schools must continue to enforce masks in the schools. If the court upholds the "unenforceable" ruling, masks would no longer be mandated.
In WASD, we will follow PDE's direction to continue to enforce masks. If students submit an exemption form to their schools, they are not required to wear a mask.
Please understand that the higher court ruling could be decided within 24 to 48 hours or longer. Please stay (no pun intended) tuned for any change. Unfortunately, schools, particularly kids, are caught in the middle of a political power struggle.

Piece of the Puzzle
This Week's Piece of the Puzzle is Assistant Principal, Mrs. Allison Kopco. Alli is a huge piece of the puzzle at WASHS. This recommendation is being made not just for one thing she does or has done, but for the many things she does and continues to do. We are certainly lucky to have her here at WASD. Mrs. Kopco consistently handles the challenges of being an administrator with calmness and grace. She is always willing to help out and makes herself available to our learners and staff. She goes above and beyond with many duties including student scheduling; organizing and proctoring weekend testing such as SAT's and ACT's. She is a great listener and very helpful with problem solving. Mrs. Kopco is extremely kind and patient with learners having any emotional issue as well as being kind and respectful to our learners with discipline issues. She has the respect of many at WASHS.
Congratulations to Mrs. Alli Kopco for the being our Piece of the Puzzle this week.
