A Message from Principal Choquette 12/15/17
It has been extremely cold. Although there may be days we stay in due to the wind chills, most days we will go outside. Students are not allowed to play in the snow unless they have boots, snowpants, coats, hats, and gloves. If you are in need of these things, please contact our adjustment counselor, Laurie Sperry. If students are not dressed appropriately, they will not be able to play in the snow and will have to stay on the pavement. Thank you for your cooperation.
We are collecting donations to start a district-wide Milk Fund Program for students who want to buy milk. Currently, you only can buy milk if you have cash or money on your lunch account. Any student with a negative balance on their card/account are not allowed to buy milk a la carte. We are also starting a fund to help with the lunch deficit. There are families who could use our help with paying off their lunch debt. If you are able to help our families in need, please send a check payable to Northampton Public Schools and in the memo section please state if your donation is for the milk fund or the lunch debt. Thank you so much for your donations and support.
As we begin the budget season, it is very important to us that we get input on the budget from our faculty and staff as well as from our families. Please look for the budget survey on the district website next week (www.northamptonschools.org). We value everyone's opinion and look forward to your input.
Many students have been asking when I will be coming into school with blue hair. It will be one day next week, but which day will be the surprise. I'm looking forward to a day of blue hair!
This has been a difficult week for the staff health wise. Many people have been sick causing a higher than usual number of absences. Also, our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade special education teachers attended a two day workshop this week which created more absences. We do our best to get subs, but there have been some days where we couldn't get coverage. We understand that this can cause students to get anxious and change their typical routines. We're hoping that we will be back to normal next week.
Thank you for understanding and have a wonderful weekend!

It's not too late--join our dedicated drivers and other Bridge Street families for a ride on the coolest bus in town!
Girls On The Run (GOTR)
We are so thrilled that Girls on the Run (GOTR) will be back at Bridge Street School again this Spring!
GOTR is an innovative after school program that inspires girls to be joyful, confident and healthy, while using an experienced-based curriculum that creatively integrates running. The program encourages girls to recognize their individual strengths and celebrate connections with others: it's about girl power. No prior running experience necessary!
The program will run for ten weeks Tuesdays and Wednesdays 3-4:30pm at Bridge St starting in March and going until early June. After the holidays we'll send home sign-up forms for the girls. There is a sliding scale for this program and financial aid is available for anyone and everyone - no girl will be turned away.
For now, we are looking for two more community/parent volunteers who can help coach. Our goal is 2-3 volunteer coaches each day, with one volunteer serving as the connector and able to volunteer both days. It can be a parent or a community member (doesn't just have to be a BSS person). GOTR will host a coaches training that preps volunteer coaches with a curriculum guide that we can follow each day.
Please send me a note if you are interested in coaching, know someone who may want to coach or just curious to learn more: alexandra.russellb@gmail.com
