Science Second

6 Things you need to know and can share with others.

November 8, 2017

1. 3rd and 4th Grade Science Field Test Guides

The State released science field test guides for grades 3 and 4. We now have a better idea of what the science field test will look like. As soon as I know more information, I’ll share it with you.

Please Note: The state science field test will be paper-based for grades 3-4 and computer based for grades 5-8.

2. Caddo's Science Scope & Sequence: Units 1-3

Units 1-3 of Caddo’s Scope and Sequence are now available for K-5. Visit http://www.caddoscience.com/standards.html for more information. Unit 4 for grades K-5 will be posted no later than December 13.

The Caddo Scope and Sequence documents are live and constantly being updated and improved in real-time.

3. Games @ NOAA

You’ll find more than 20 games and interactive activities focused on ocean and air themes at the NOAA website. The games were developed for K–8 audiences by NOAA and other agencies and organizations promoting environmental stewardship. Choose from games such as Ocean Challenge Puzzle, in which students answer questions about ocean literacy to reveal puzzle tiles to complete a picture; Trash Smash, in which students learn to correctly dispose of marine debris and help clean up the environment; and Mix and Match, in which students create their own weird-looking animals as they study the creatures living in the Chesapeake Bay.

4. Louisiana Science Teachers Association

Louisiana Science Teachers Association (LSTA) is a special group of interdisciplinary science educators. Our membership includes K-12 classroom teachers, administrators, university faculty, informal educators, concerned citizens, and business personnel. LSTA is a great organization for teachers in Louisiana. I hope you'll consider joining.

5. Caddo Elementary Science Survey

The Caddo Science Elementary Department is conducting a survey. I would greatly appreciate it if you could take the time to either take and/or share the K-5 science survey with your elementary colleagues. I am very interested in the feedback from Caddo educators. This survey is anonymous so I won’t know if you complete it or not, but I really hope that you will. The survey will close Friday, November 10 at 4 PM.

Thanks so much for your participation.
