Family Communication
May 20, 2022
Hello Families,
Our teachers and staff have begun planning for the 2022-2023 school year! I was recently with Stanwood Middle School staff and we talked about our efforts to support all learners in math, language arts, and social-emotional development. The team in this photo is discussing goals for students over the next three years. Specifically, what do we want middle schoolers to be able to know and do by the end of the 2025 school year? Having established that, what do we need to do in 2022-2023 to make progress toward our 2025 goals? Each school will be participating in this type of planning.
Kindergarten!
Kindergarten is an especially exciting time for students and families. At a recent kindergarten event for students in the class of 2035, I saw this picture made by Maverick (class of 2034). It reminded me of the growth and development we will see in our students over their 13 years with us!
Thank you to our School Board Student Advisors
At the regular Board meeting on Tuesday, May 17, the Board recognized departing student advisors Andrew Norton of Stanwood High School and Madalyn Thornton of Lincoln Hill High School for their service at their final meeting.
Both received the WASA Student Leadership Award, which recognizes student leaders who have created or played a significant role in initiatives or programs that promote inclusivity, access, equity, or social justice in their school and community. Madalyn is an advocate for all voices and ensures everyone’s perspective is appreciated. Andrew takes his role seriously and provides the Board with essential updates about his school and community. We will miss having them at our meetings.
2022-23 Student Calendar
The School Board approved the 2022-23 student calendar at its meeting on May 17. The school year will begin Thursday, September 1, 2022.
Summer School
Summer School will be held at Lincoln Hill High School. The program will run for 20 days, from August 1 to August 26, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Transportation will be provided with limited pickup and dropoff locations around the district.
School counselors will identify courses needed for graduation. If you are interested in enrolling your student, please read through the information linked HERE and return a signed copy to the office at Stanwood High School or Lincoln Hill High School. If you have questions about graduation requirements, contact your student’s counselor. For general questions about the summer school program, email Carlina Fiordilino at cfiordilino@stanwood.wednet.edu.
