Improving Race Relations In America

Slavery in America.....

Slavery began when the European merchants started the Triangular Trade.

The Triangular trade was a system where slaves, crops, and manufactures were traded between Africa, The Caribbean, and the American colonies. Slave ships were cargo ships in which cargo (slaves) were transported. Slaves were needed to do work on plantations so farmers/ southerners could make profits. The slaves were needed more in the south because the south supported slavery but the north didn't, that's why we had less slaves. Slavery was affected by the cotton gin because the cotton gin needed more workers to work it.

How were slaves treated in America.....

Slaves in America were treated poorly.

A slaves schedule was the same every day. 15-16 hours of work a day while being pushed to do more than what they could physically handle. Slaves would receive a monthly allowance of corn, salt-herrings and 8 pounds of pork/fish. a slaves jobs included working and harvesting on the plantation and working with the cotton gin. Slaves would live with a wooden hut with a dirt floor and a bed made out of straw and dirt and old rags. When a slave did something that displeased the master the master would do one of the many things or all. Punishments included whipping, shackling, hanging, beating, burning, mutilation, branding and imprisonment. Slaves were not allowed to go school, attend church, but they could marry and have children even though they will all soon be separated. Whipping, execution and sexual abuse of women, including rape, were common. If a slave was caught running away there are 2 of the worst punishments that could happen, these include; Getting mauled by dogs or feet or even legs getting chopped off.

How did slavery end in America.....

It took until 1865 for slavery to be illegal in the United States with the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

There were a lot of events that happened but here is four. In 1619 the first slaves arrive in Virginia, In 1787 slavery is made illegal in the north, in 1808 congress bans the importation of slaves, and in 1865 the civil war ends, Abraham Lincoln is assassinated and slavery is ended. When Abraham Lincoln was president he and the Republican party wanted to end slavery because they thought it was wrong. The Emancipation Proclamation had a reason to turn the civil war into a war to end slavery. That reason was because there was blacks fighting in the army and Navy and they volunteered.

What Can Be Done To Improve Race Relations In America

There should be something done to help improve or to apologize. I have an idea to help with this problem, but a lot of other people will have to help support it. My idea is we should put up a museum to recognize and honor the slaves and blacks. We should put one up because there's a museum for almost any race or religion. Like for the Jews there's the holocaust museum so why can't we have one for the slaves because they deserve it. We could build it in the south because that's were it was worst.
