Weekly Update
Monday December 5, 2022
From the Principal's Desk
Greetings CLRES Team!
Can you believe it is already December? Where has the time gone? As we head into the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, I hope you are being intentional about the boundaries you set to manage your stress and well-being.
This week we have 2 early release days. We have awards ceremonies scheduled for Monday and Tuesday. The ceremonies will be live-streamed for families. At 12:15 or once all your students have been accounted for, you are free to leave. I strongly suggest getting everything done before you leave so you can fully enjoy your time, however, you chose to spend it.
Let's make it a great week, on purpose.

PGCPS RELA Quarter 1 Curriculum Survey
Our district is collecting data about the implementation and pacing of the curriculum during Quarter 1. Reading teachers in grades 1 - 5, please complete the survey below.
Reading Updates
Here are the latest updates from the RELA Department.
Important things to note:
1. Lexia has started!!! If your students are on the Lexia Roster (k-3), please make sure they are on Lexia for at least 20 min a day (instead of iReady). Each week students are given an individual target goal, for any student who meets their target every week during the month- at the end of the month, they will get a prize. When students complete a level, Lexia sends them a virtual certificate. I will print the certificates out for them to take home!
2. iReady Reading- the county is once again monitoring iReady usage in the schools. The goal for December is 80% of students using the platform on a regular basis (aside from Lexia students). After the new year, we will start back up with our iReady challenges. If you have ideas for the challenges- feel free to let me know!
3. For those interested in the LETRS training, the newest cohort applications are live now. The links are in the updates.
4. Recruitment for MCAP Committees The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) is in the process of recruiting educators for various Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) committees to ensure that the items on the assessment are aligned with the standards and instruction, and measure student knowledge accurately and fairly. The MCAP activities include item writing, passage/stimulus reviews, content review, and rangefinding. MSDE establishes committees for Accommodations; Fairness, Bias, and Sensitivity; English Language Arts and Literacy; Mathematics; K-2 English and Mathematics Assessments; Maryland Integrated Science Assessments; and Social Studies and American Government Assessments. Educator participation in these committees not only supports the MCAP development process, but also provides excellent professional growth opportunities. MSDE has shared the MCAP recruitment survey: https://forms.office.com/r/mir2jJMkza. The various committees are explained within the survey. There is no intended deadline for completing this survey. It will remain open to collect as many educators as possible. All educators are encouraged to fill out the survey even if they have participated or shown interest in the past.
Please see Mrs. Kessler if you have any questions.
