SMCS ELEMENTARY FAMILY NEWSLETTER - SEPTEMBER 14, 2022
Greetings from the Principal
Dear SMCS families,
On this Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, our gospel reading gives us one of the most famous and most important messages upon which we base our Christianity from John 3:16: For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. Throughout the first few weeks of school I have been constantly amazed and filled with gratitude for all the ways God pours out his immeasurable love for us. It is so evident as we celebrate mass as a school community, as our students learn about their faith in religion class, as we pray together each and every day, in the acts of kindness and generosity I see, and so many other ways day in and day out. What a blessing it is to educate your children and to be a part of the SMCS community!
Many blessings,
Mrs. Anna Cihlar
Principal ~ St. Gabriel, St. Margaret Mary, St. Mary

All-school Mass Day & 5th Grade Visit Day: Friday, October 7
Students in grades K-12 from all five SMCS campuses will have the opportunity to celebrate mass together on Friday, October 7 at the high school. Elementary students in grades K-4 will take a bus to the high school, celebrate mass at 9:30 a.m. and return to school by lunch time. Students in 5th grade will take the bus to the high school in the morning along with the rest of the students, attend the all-school mass, and then walk to the middle school for "5th Grade Visit Day." They will attend an assembly, have lunch, and then be bussed back to school around 1:15 p.m. This is a great opportunity to get a feel for middle school.
Please watch for a permission slip to come home soon!
You're invited to walk in the Homecoming parade!
Elementary students will have the opportunity to walk in the Homecoming Parade on Oct. 7! Kids are asked to line up at Schildt Park at 4 pm and the parade will begin in 5 pm. Morning Drop-Off
It has been wonderful seeing parents at drop-off in the morning and staying for our morning prayer in the gym - what a wonderful opportunity to begin the day in prayer as one big school community! We welcome parents to continue to join us in the gym for morning prayer throughout the year. Beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 6, we ask that parents say goodbye to their children in the gym after prayer/announcements and allow them to leave for their classrooms on their own with their teachers. Thank you!
St. Gabriel Information
H.A.L.O stands for Helping and Loving Others. When a child displays behavior above and beyond what is expected by showing faith, responsibility, teamwork, kindness, or leadership, they may receive a H.A.L.O. award from a teacher. H.A.L.O awards are shared with the school at our morning prayer time in the gym. Awards are then added to our bulletin board. This is our amazing bulletin board for the month of September!

SME FAMILY EVENT:
I am looking for help planning/hosting a Family Event for our school in Oct/Nov. In the past, we have had Bowling night, Movie Night in the Gym, Roller skating, etc. We are open to new ideas. In particular, I am looking for a group of parents to pull this off. I know some of you signed up at Orientation and I will be sending out a text soon to those, but we are always looking for more! I most likely won’t be able to host, as my evenings are full of activities for my older children, so I need a few parents to be the point people. I can help plan. It’s great to build school community, and these types of events help so much with that development. Please consider and text me at 414-416-9595!!

St. Mary Parish
Imagine you could see the life of Jesus through the eyes of the people that walked on earth with him – the disciples, Mary his mother, the Pharisees, the children, those he healed. What would that look like? Now you can experience it! … The Chosen allows us to see Him through the eyes of those who knew him. The Chosen stays faithful to the Gospels and at the same time tells us a story that is in between the lines of scripture. This T.V. series brings to life those people that are mentioned in the Bible, using the historical context of life at the time of Jesus. The series does not contradict scripture, but instead puts life around it so that we as viewers can imagine, “What life was like with Jesus.” It really could have been this way. The Chosen is a fresh look at the Gospels for those who have been reading the stories for years or for those who are just curious about who Jesus is and was.
Come join us if you are curious and interested in learning more about Jesus and the people He interacted with. We will watch and discuss Season 2 of The Chosen, generally twice a month at St. Mary’s during Faith Formation classes, on the following dates…9/21, 10/12, 10/19, 11/9, 11/16, 11/30, 12/14.
We also conclude each Wednesday night with Mass at 7pm - to end each night with our Lord, what could be better?!

If you are considering volunteering or chaperoning any school field trips or events, please complete Virtus training, a background check, and the code of conduct through the Diocese Green Bay.
