It is always important to keep good communication with your child or young adult. One of my favorite ways of doing this when asking about their day is to “Tell me about the Good, The Bad, and the Ugly” This saying comes from a title of a Western film staring Clint Eastwood. This way, the conversation prompts both good and not so good events that they would like to share. In addition to this strategy, I also found a link to 30 Questions to Ask Your Kid Instead of “How Was Your Day?” Maybe try different ones on different days. Remember to celebrate the positive things in your child's life as well as encouraging them through the difficult things that they will encounter.

7th grade girls basketball (Coach Moeller)
This week the Lago Vista Lady Vikings hosted their season opener against Blanco.
The 7th grade B team's focus this week was learning court management and building stamina running up and down the floor. Makayla Ward and Madisyn Wright both proved to be a presence down low, grabbing lots of rebounds and giving us chances at some fast break points. Gabby Nolette, Lola Spedale, and Makayla Ward each scored 2 points to give us 6 points in the first half. Madisyn Wright and Cadence Sansom each put up 2 points during the 2nd half. Our ability to stop the fast break helped us stay one step ahead of the Panthers until a last minute score left us in a tie, 10-10.
The 7th grade A team came out firing and put up a pretty good lead from the get-go. Lots of steals for Taylor Nuckolls and Sarah Long gave us opportunities to score some easy layup points. The Lady Vikings broke their press with no problem, and even got to set up their offense a few times. In the 1st quarter, we scored 10 points with buckets from Bella Zaleski, Emma Vincent, Beth Syer, and 2 from Sarah Long. In the 2nd quarter, some bad passes and missed layups held us to only 4 points scored, 2 each from Gina Chiappone and Klarisa Polikaitis. The 3rd quarter saw 6 points from the Lady Vikings, divided among Taylor Nuckolls, Gina, and Klarisa. 6 more points in the 4th, contributed by Emma, Klarisa, and Sarah led us to a 26-13 victory to start our season off 1-0 in district play. The hustle that the Vikings displayed during this game should be a hint of what is to come this season.
The Lady Vikings go on a long Thanksgiving Break next week, and then return to district play the Monday we get back, 11/28, as we travel to Ingram to take on the Warriors.
8th grade girls basketball (Coach Dachowski)
This week our Lago Vista Lady Vikings hosted their season opener against Blanco.
The 8th grade B team hustled and played hard against the Panthers. The Lady Vikings pushed the ball up quickly and were able to convert those into baskets. Cirsten Bonilla, Avery Nichols, and Ryleigh Oliver all scored 2 points in the first half. Blanco's defense held us to 6 points in the second half, but several good shots and great opportunities were taken. The game ended in a loss, 6-16, but the Lady Vikings showed great potential and we are excited for the rest of our season.
The 8th grade A team started off with a bang and put up a good lead from tip-off. The Lady Vikings took advantage of several fast break opportunities, defensive steals, and offensive rebounds. In the first quarter we scored 7 points with baskets from Esther Long, Jade Press, and Emily Peiklik. I the second quarter we scored another 7 points from Schuyler Burke, Jade Press, Grace Rohne, and Josey Kannmacher. In the third, we were held to 4 points with baskets from Emily Peiklik and Heather Power. 8 more points were scored in the 4th, contributed by Hailee Cosgrove, Esther Long, Jade Press, and Josey Kannmacher leading us to a 26-12 victory over Blanco and 1-0 in district play. Congratulations to the Lady Vikings for a job well done and we look forward to what we can accomplish the rest of this season.
