Youth Wildflower Art Contest
Shenandoah National Park's annual Youth Wildflower Art Contest has gone virtual! After a year's hiatus because of COVIC-19 closures, we have found a way for local children in grades K-12 to participate in the contest once again. Instead of mailing artwork to the park, this year's young artists can simply upload their entries to an internet platform through the www.callforentry.org website.
For the subjects of their work, artists must use wildflowers that are native to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Shenandoah National Park. A list of wildflowers as well as reference photos may be viewed in the instructions. Submissions must be on flat media, and may include acrylic, watercolor, charcoal, pencil, fabric, etc.
Teachers, parents, and guardians may submit art for their students. As in previous years, the contest is open to students who are home-schooled or in public, private or city schools in the following counties: Albemarle, Augusta, Greene, Page, Madison, Rappahannock, Rockingham, Shenandoah and Warren. Artwork may be uploaded starting May 15, 2021, and continue through May 25.
Please pass this opportunity on to your students and art teachers. For more information, visit Virtual Wildflower Celebration & Youth Art Contest - Shenandoah National Park (U.S. National Park Service) (nps.gov)

Immunizations
NEW guidelines
- Please read carefully the RCPS immunization/Physical Examination Schedule for 2021-2022. Under sections Grade 6th and Grade 7th, ALL rising 7th graders will need to have their Tdap-booster (must be 11 years old) that is required for entry into 7th grade regardless of the interval since the last dose of tetanus-containing vaccine by this fall 2021-22 school year.
- They now also require all males and females to get their first dose of HPV and Meningococcal vaccine before entry of the 7th grade as well. We would like for you to start planning ahead on this and get your doctor's appointment scheduled now so this will be done prior to Augusta 2021.
The Health Department is still closed for these types of appointments and it will not be easy to make these appointments at the last minute.
If you have any questions please call and speak to the school nurse or ask your doctor.
