Peek at the Week

Here is what is coming up next week!

Writing-Now that the STAAR test is over, we will be doing some fun creative writing. This week the students will be creating their own world. They will practice our Stallion trait this month of cooperation by working in groups to create their own world and then writing a story about what happens in their world.

Reading-We will be reviewing our reading strategies using a variety of reading passages and working on comprehension of the story as well as what the question is asking us.

Math-We have begun our unit on Measurement. We are exploring the different measurements and how to convert between two different units of measure. We will focus on capacity, weight, and mass this week.

Science-We have started a new unit on the Traits, Behaviors, and Adaptations of plants and animals. We started learning about plant adaptations and will finish early in the week and begin our more in depth look at animal adaptations. The students will investigate mini labs about plant adaptations and experience some animal adaptations in our whole class lab day.

Texas History-The students are beginning a new unit on The Great Depression and how the stock market had an effect on this time period.

Field Trip

You will be receiving a packet tomorrow regarding our field trip coming up. There are two forms to be filled out. If you could fill them out as soon as possible and return them we would appreciate it!

Think Through Math Homework

Please make sure your student is logging on to Think Through Math for homework! This program is great and really helps with problem solving. I require 40 minutes a week of time spent on Think Through Math. Students who complete this will get Lunch Bunch in the classroom on Mondays!

Grades

Please make sure that you are checking Home Access. If you see an M or a blank spot on the assignment that means your student has NOT turned in the assignment. Soon, I will be requiring them to check into Home Access once per week and recording their grades and any missing work they have. Please keep a look out for the paper to come home in about 2 weeks.

Book Club Expectations

I have gone onto my Classroom blogger page Mrs. Wright's Brights and updated the Book Club expectations. Click on the tab at the top of the page for Book Club expectations and it will explain to you how Book Club is run in the classroom and what the students are responsible for completing at home and at school. The link to Mrs. Wright's Brights is at the bottom of this newsletter.
