CHECK THIS OUT - the PHS Assignment Page...
The PHS Assignment Page is a single-stop reference for students and families to stay up to date on what is happening in all classrooms. On the PHS Assignment Page teachers provide a weekly update of daily assignments, long-term assignments and projects, and upcoming assessments.
For a more detailed understanding of what is happening in an individual classroom, please talk to your student or reach out to their teacher. Need assistance enrolling in the "Guardian View" of Google Classroom? Individual teachers can assist with this too.
Career Services...
How Can Students Go About Exploring Careers of Interest?
“How can students begin exploring careers and figure out what they may be interested in doing after high school?” This is a common question we get from parents, educators, and even students themselves! To help answer this question, we have created an easy-to-read infographic that outlines a variety of ways students can explore their passions, careers of interest, and prepare for their future.
From taking a career assessment to attending a job shadow to earning college credit while in high school, there are so many resources available to help students explore. Please share this resource with the students in your life!
What does your future hold? Sign up for an Internship or Job Shadow in January!
The Summer 2022 internship portal opens Dec. 13, 2021 through Feb. 4, 2022, for current high school sophomores and juniors. Internships are 45 – 90 hours in length and students may be able to earn high school credit.
The Winter/Spring 2022 job shadow application portal opens Jan. 3 – 28, 2022. High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors have the opportunity to explore a variety of careers and gain useful information about what it takes to succeed in different fields. Check back in January to see the broad scope of opportunities available.
College and Career Transition...
FAFSA Completion Challenge
Prairie High School is challenging the Class of 2022 to reach or exceed the state of Iowa's FAFSA completion rate from last year. Last year, 61% of Iowa seniors completed the FAFSA. I am confident the Class of 2022 can crush this goal. Game on, Class of 2022. We got this!
Have questions or need help? Contact Ms. Rawson at nrawson@crprairie.org or schedule a meeting here.
Seniors, have you been accepted to college? Enlisted in the military? Enrolled in an apprenticeship program?
We want to celebrate your accomplishments by announcing your acceptances, enlistments and enrollments over the loudspeaker each Thursday for the entire school to hear! You've worked hard, celebrate it. To have your accomplishments announced, please complete this Class of 2022 Post-Secondary Celebrations form for each acceptance or enlistment or enrollment. Entries received by 1:00pm on Wednesdays will be announced on Thursday.
Please note: We know many of you do not yet know where you will be attending or what you will be doing after high school. That's okay! These announcements are simply to celebrate the options you have right now. Later in the spring, we will celebrate your post-secondary decisions.
Have questions about college or career planning?
Reach out to Ms. Rawson at nrawson@crprairie.org or schedule an appointment here.
Participate in all PHS activities and cheer on your Prairie Hawks!

GT Corner...
Students, if you are looking for volunteer hours, we have several opportunities either working with GT elementary students or helping with Chess Club on Mondays between 3-5 pm. Please let me know if you are interested!
Poetry Out Loud is a poetry recitation contest for high school students that begins in classrooms across the country. It culminates with the Poetry Out Loud National Finals in Washington, D.C., where champions from all 50 states compete for a total of $50,000 in scholarships and school stipends, including a $20,000 college scholarship for the Poetry Out Loud National Champion. If you are interested in participating, please let me know as soon as possible!
15-Second Vocabulary Video Challenge
Students are invited to create a short video that defines or teaches any of the words in the Word of the Day collection.
If you are inspired to make your own video, the rules are simple:
Select any word from our list of 2000-plus Words of the Day (PDF).
Create a 15-second (or shorter) video that defines or teaches the word.
Make sure you pronounce your word aloud, define it and give the part of speech.
Upload the video to YouTube and submit your entry by following the directions below (or have an adult do so on your behalf).
If you used additional sound effects or music in your video, be sure to list your sources and confirm that they are not copyright protected.
Dates: Dec. 1, 2021-Jan. 12, 2022
Parents, thank you for attending our ACGE meeting! We truly appreciate your partnership.
