How To Create A Stronger Password
It seems almost every month, we hear a news report of a data breach with a major US or global company that exposes thousands, and in some cases millions, of people’s personal information. A normal concern for people to have is how they can stay safe online and protect their personal information. To be sure, there are many important steps to staying safe in our digital world and our goal with this newsletter is to periodically share with you steps you can take. One essential way to stay safe online and protect your personal data is by making sure you are using strong passwords.
For years we have recommended not using passwords that were simple or easily guessed (like the name of your spouse or kids). However, what is considered a strong password has evolved over the years. Until recent years, recommendations for creating a strong password may have included tips like these:
- Use both capital and lower-case letters
- Use numbers with letters
- Use more 8 or more characters
- Use one or more symbols in your password (such as $, @, *, etc.)
