ELA
We’ve had a great week in ELA continuing to setup our classroom culture and getting to know each other. We also took our first STAR reading test and ELA pre-assessment for inferencing and drawing conclusions. Next week, we’ll dig into these big concepts!
Week at a Glance:
Monday: Introduction to inferencing and drawing conclusions
Tuesday: Continue inferencing and drawing conclusions
Wednesday: Intro to guided reading, continue inferencing and drawing conclusions
Thursday: Intro to affixes, inferencing and drawing conclusions
Friday: guided reading, inferencing and drawing conclusions
Learning Targets for the Week:
Learn the foundation of inferencing and drawing conclusions, as well as introduction to prefixes, suffixes, and root words.
Important Vocabulary:
Inference
Draw Conclusion
Prefix
Suffix
Root word
Power Standards for the Quarter:
Draw conclusions, infer, and analyze by citing the textual evidence that most strongly supports an analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.
Draw conclusions, infer, and analyze by citing the textual evidence that most strongly supports an analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.
Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in the text, including figurative, connotative, and content-specific meanings using context, affixes, or reference materials.
Use a given process to create clear narrative, expository, and argument writing that is developed, and organized for the task; including style, voice, purpose, and audience.
Present in a clear and audible voice while remaining on-topic, focused, and maintain voice level and pace

Announcements: To see what we are doing in class, ask your child to show you their daily agenda on the Hyperdoc attached to Google Classroom. Here you can see the agenda as it is updated daily to reflect what students are doing each day.
Learning Targets for the Week:
- I can compute a unit rate from a simple rate.
- I can compute unit rates from complex fractions
- I can convert unit rates between two units of measurement
Important Vocabulary: rate, unit rate, complex fraction, unit ratio
Power Standards for the Quarter:
Compute unit rates, including those that involve complex fractions, with like or different units7.RP.A.1
Recognize and represent proportional relationships between quantities7.RP.A.2
Solve problems involving ratios rates, percentages, and proportional relationships7.RP.A.3

Life Science
Week at a Glance:
We will start the week finishing up the Scientific Method. Our post-test for the Scientific Method will be given on Tuesday. Wednesday will begin our unit on living organisms through learning the history, parts, and use of the microscope.
Learning Target for the Week:
Identify independent variable, dependent variable, controlled variable and form a hypothesis.
Collect, analyze, and draw inferences from data.
Identify parts of the microscope.
Important Vocabulary:
Scientific Method
Independent variable
Dependent Variable
Controlled Variable
Hypothesis
Data
Parts of a microscope
Power Standards for the Quarter:
Provide evidence that living things are made up of one or many varied cells
Explain that cells must carry out all of the basic functions of life. Understand the functions of the nucleus, chloroplasts, mitochondria, cell membrane, and cell wall and all organelles work together to make a cell function.
Use evidence to argue that multicellular organisms are organized by varying levels of complexity.
Describe the role of photosynthesis and cellular respiration in the cycling of matter and flow of energy in and out of organisms

Announcements: If students have Native American art or artifacts that they would like to bring and share they are more than welcome!
Learning Target for the Week:
- Identify the cultural regions of Native American tribes.
- Identify the resources used to create homes, hunt/gather food, and craft objects for work and for art.
Power Standards for the Quarter: Explain how Native Americans adapted to their environment.
