Prepared For Flight - Southwest ISD Aviation
Jessica Gonzalez, a junior, said that this pathway has helped her open up and encourages others to try the program by saying "It is actually really cool bonding with people who are interested in the same things, especially the mentors, because they have really good resources of people who can help you if you're trying to look to expand your career in the pathway".
When we asked about the upcoming plane launch and they think they will feel the day of launch, Alana Medina said " It is going to be breathtaking, because it wasn't adults that built the plane, it was us as students. We got to build the plane. We got to get every experience. We've got to sit in the plane, test it, take it on engine runs, everything. We would do all of that, but not only by ourselves. We would have our mentors come help us, because we need to be safe at all times. But it was honestly amazing and it's crazy thinking that high school students built an airplane that's going to take flight".

The students are tracking data and researching hydroponics to create a plan for growing the largest quantity of healthy produce. This year our 5th graders continue the work started to build sustainable food sources using hydroponic garden systems. The students gathered their first harvest and enjoyed a fresh salad with homemade dressing and pasta with fresh basil, all made by our principal. They can't wait to harvest again and make their dressings. A special thank you to the Southwest ISD education foundation for providing a grant last year for our tower gardens.
