Silver Lake Learning Commons News
Notes from the Librarian
Did you know?
Silver Lake library has over 14,000 print books and access to over 10,000 ebooks.
You can always make suggestions for books to be added to the collection.
Every student and teacher has access to MackinVia ebooks and databases using his/her network login and password.
This same login works for Brytewave ebooks.
You can search for books in the library using http://destiny.gcisd.net. You can even log in and make lists of books you check out every year. It is your district login and password.
Students come to the library every week. Students who are able to perform self checkout are welcome to come additional times throughout the week whenever they need to switch out books or just want to relax in the learning commons. They are also welcome to come in small groups to work on projects!
Lessons on Popplet, Destiny, citation, plagiarism, search engines, author's purpose, de Bono's thinking hats, multiple meaning words, and the moral of the story have been going on in the learning commons lately. Please see your friendly librarian to schedule a co-teaching lesson or unit with her!
