Enough space and enough time for learning. Light and simple spaces for Pilates, Alexander Technique & Shiatsu sessions ... and for relaxing, too!
Individual attention. Small group retreat allows for personal attention in group runs and classes. Each person receives private Alexander Technique and Shiatsu sessions. As meals are shared there are continuous opportunities for group learning. Perfect retreat for the runner recovering from injury to learn how to come back without overcompensation and to prevent any recurrence.
Informal accommodations in a private home. All bedding is supportive and comfortable. All room shares will be worked out and agreed upon in advance. One room with two twin beds. One room with queen bed. One room with sleeping couchs and futon that up to three people can share. One room with futons and air bed that up to four people can share. (This room is used during the daytime for classes) Camping onsite is also an option.

We hope you will consider joining us in the Berkshires from March 8, 9 & 10, 2013 for a unique and personal running experience: an intensive weekend to assist you to meet your Spring running goals.
Our retreat will be a comprehensive weekend program for a small group of runners at all levels - beginners to advanced - and including runners who are recovering from injury who will be given alternatives to the group training runs.
The full weekend package includes group runs and workouts, as well as group Pilates and Alexander Technique classes. Each participant will also get private, individualized Alexander Technique lessons with Monika and a private one-hour shiatsu session with Tom. You will have the option of meals and informal accommodations (as described above) on site that are included in the price, or we can steer you to a variety of accommodations in the immediate area if you prefer to stay off site and enjoy a reduced rate for the retreat. While we strongly encourage you to attend for the whole retreat, one-day options that do not include accommodations other than an onsite camping option are also available.
The retreat location is in the Berkshires, on the NY/Massachusetts border, in Canaan NY. It is a 2.5 hour drive from NYC or there is train service to Hudson NY via Amtrak. Pick ups at the train station can be arranged.

Since this is a small group retreat, we will be able to tailor the weekend to group interests and needs. For instance, you may wish to participate in all or only a few of the runs or classes. Our emphasis is on the individual and on long-term well-being. This is not a “boot camp” style weekend!

Tom Dessereau
Tom was a former coach for the New York Flyers. He is also an excellent shiatsu practitioner and has been a classically trained Pilates instructor for over fifteen years. The healing and restorative aspects of shiatsu combined with the toning and flexibility developed through thoughtful Pilates training sessions have been keeping Tom's clients healthy and on the roads (and trails!)
Monika Gross
Monika has been teaching the Alexander Technique for almost 30 years and has enthusiastically introduced this "secret weapon" to dozens of runners. Learning the Alexander Technique (AT) is like discovering a super power you didn’t realize you had: an anti-gravity reflex that releases your body upward and makes every kind of movement lighter, freer, smoother and easier. We all possess this dynamic, natural anti-gravity reflex, but when we tense up the delicately balanced relationship of our heads, necks, and backs, it's like driving a car with the emergency brake on. AT teaches us how to release the reins and run free!

Between the two of us, we share 50 years of experience as runners and coaches and have completed more than 25 marathons. Together we integrate our expertise to help runners at any level develop the positive skills to make their running a life-long pleasure.
