This Week in LVUSD
Week of April 6, 2020
Distance Learning Extension and FAQ's
Earlier this week, Governor Newsom announced that all California school campuses will remain physically closed. Importantly, while campuses are closed, school is still in session and distance learning will continue for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. Please remember that Spring Break, April 10-17 and Memorial Day, May 25 will still be observed as non-instructional days.
We know how important end-of-year ceremonies are to you, our students, staff, and our community; we ask for your patience while we explore all options.
We greatly appreciate your partnership as we work to hold our community together in this trying time. Please know that LVUSD is here for you and your family, providing distance learning, meals, counseling support, consistency, and connection in the coming months.
For additional information on LVUSD distance learning, please see the following FAQ document: LVUSD Distance Learning FAQ's. These documents can help answer any questions that you might have as we continue to navigate these unprecedented circumstances together.
Reminder: Student Meals Available
Parents may pick up the meals on behalf of their students; students are not required to be present. When a parent comes for pick up, they may take two days of meals for each student in their family. Please bring a bag or box if possible.
Student Tutoring Support for Elementary Schools
LVUSD is offering distance tutoring/connection program for K-5 students. As we go into the weeks ahead, a number of our high school students have generously volunteered their time to offer free 30-minute virtual tutoring and support appointments for our students. Know that this is for LVUSD students and families only, and we ask that you do not book more than two appointments per week at this point in time.
To schedule an appointment:
Go to: Community360.me/LVUSDTutors
Password for the page is “LVUSD” (all caps)
Click Book Now next to the subject/area you’d like virtual support.
A student tutor will reach out to you at the email you provide with a Google Meets link.
Our hope is to expand the program to middle and high school soon. We ask that an adult is in the room nearby during the tutoring process. Thank you to our amazing high school students for making this possible.
Please Join Us: 30 Days of Journaling
Inspired by Suleika Jaouad’s The Isolation Journals, a thoughtful endeavor to bring people together through creativity, LVUSD will be using Connection Journals to serve the same purpose: to provide an opportunity to pause, breath, reflect and create as a community during this unusual and challenging time of social distancing.
Whether you dedicate a new, bound journal to this project, scratch your thoughts on a piece of recycled paper, or write on your phone or tablet, we encourage you to make this opportunity your own and customize it in any way that might best meet your needs.
