Week 2: Cyberbullying
A Note from the School Counselors (Mrs. W-Y & Mrs. Ventura)
Although it might seem early to think about our CES students and online bullying, it’s best to take precautions and have honest and open conversations about internet use early. This week, we thought we would share some information that Common Sense Media has around the topic of Cyberbullying.
“Once kids go online, their chances of finding cyberbullies, haters, and trolls is, sadly, quite high. Find age-specific guidelines, videos, and articles to help with tough conversations -- whether your kid is a bully or is being bullied. We answer all your cyberbullying questions, offering age-appropriate advice, school resources, and more from parents and experts.”
Check out the link below for the answers to some common parent questions around cyberbullying, such as:
“What should I teach my kid about online safety?”
“When should parents intervene in a cyberbullying situation?”
“How do I report cyberbullying?”
“What can I tell my kid if he/she is being cyberbullied?”

GV Ice Hockey Club
On Sunday, May 21st the Garnet Valley Ice Hockey club will be holding their Spring registration day at IceWorks in Aston, on Rink 3, from 2:30 to 5:45. This event is open to any and all Garnet Valley School District students from Kindergarten through 12th grade that are interested in playing Ice Hockey for your school team. The Garnet Valley Ice Hockey Club fields teams from the mite level through HS varsity. We play local schools from the surrounding areas – Strath Haven, Penncrest, Ridley, Haveford – just to name a few. Majority of the games at younger levels are played at IceWorks in Aston or Iceline in West Chester. Most teams practice once or twice a week and have a game once or twice a week. Boys and girls of all skill levels are invited to sign up. Garnet Valley Ice Hockey gives students the opportunity to play on a school team before the middle school and high school levels.
Here is the schedule for 5/21
2:30 – 3:45 – Food and beverages in the party room between Rinks 3 and 4.
4:15 - 5:45 – Open family skate from 4:15 to 5:45
2:30 – 5:45 – Registration throughout entire event
For more information on this event and Garnet Valley Ice Hockey, please contact Michael Incorvaia at mincor@aol.com or Tom Robinson at trobinson27@comcast.net. Early registration is available online by going to www.garnetvalleyicehockey.com.

Introducing Community Living and Learning
The Garnet Valley Special Education Department has established a Community Living and Learning program to support the development of students with special learning needs at the high school level. We have leased an apartment to provide an authentic learning environment for the students to acquire independent living skills, work skills, and life skills.
We are seeking donations from our Garnet Valley community to support and sustain the program. This support would include:
- Gift Cards to local grocery stores and department stores (Home Depot, Staples, Home Goods, Best Buy)
- Purchasing items at our Target Registry (Listed as Garnet Valley CLL Apartment)
- Direct cash donations through My School Bucks Click Here to Donate
Any donation size would be appreciated!!
We are also seeking a special donation of a transportation van to support our needs for work schedules and grocery runs.
For businesses who wish to donate $500, the company name will be listed on the district website. For donations of $1,000, the company name and logo or link to website will be listed.
Donations are Tax Deductible, and will be accepted at Garnet Valley School District, Attn: Community Living & Learning, 80 Station Road, Glen Mills, PA 19342
Please join us in our initiative to enhance the educational programming for our students with special needs.

Garnet Valley CTC Quick Tip #35 Mental Health Awareness
Did you know? Delaware County has a free mobile mental health emergency service. It is called the Delaware County Crisis Connections Team aka the Mobile Crisis Team. They are a 24/7 service in Delaware County that can be reached at 1-855-889-7827 for all ages. In the event of a mental health crisis or if you have a question about what would constitute a mental health crisis – make the call. A trained mental health clinician will answer your call and guide you through a process of assessing your situation, intervening as necessary, and helping you access services which could include coming to you if needed.
Call to action… So often in Garnet Valley our students alert their parents when they are concerned about a friend’s mental health. Garnet Valley is a caring community. The dilemma can occur when school is closed. Rather than wait, call the Mobile Crisis Team at 1-855-889-7827 with your concerns. They will guide you through the appropriate steps. You do not have to hold concerning information until the next morning.
