It's difficult to solve a problem when you don't understand what's wrong to begin with. Many of us have been trying to solve the problem of "us" for a long time. Some of you have lost friends, family, or jobs because you couldn't solve you. Some of you have paid someone good money to solve you. But what if the real problem is that you don't know what the problem is?
The importance of doing the right thing
The Importance of Doing the Right Thing
“It’s not true that nice guys finish last. Nice guys are winners before the game even starts.”
– Addison Walker, comic artist, creator of Beetle Bailey and Hi and Lois
It’s difficult to turn on a television or view the Internet without seeing examples of people doing bad things and reaping rewards from their actions. For instance, Jordan Belfort, the real life “Wolf of Wall Street,” who conned piles of money from innocent, hardworking people spent little time suffering for his crime. Now he’s reaping the royalties from the smash movie about him and getting more money telling the story of his sordid past.
There are endless examples of people doing wrong who not only seem to never suffer for it, but instead are rewarded. This can be disheartening to the man who is fighting for his family and fighting for his marriage. However, there is good news and it’s that we aren’t here for our own personal satisfaction. Men who do the right thing and who own their responsibilities are laying foundations that will last generations. [Tweet This] Life is about big picture thinking. For what good is it to gain the whole world if we lose our soul?
Here are some important reasons for doing the right thing:
Integrity Matters
Having integrity as men sets the example that will build the foundation our children are growing upon. Football coach Lou Holtz, says, “I follow 3 rules: Do the right thing, do the best you can, and always show people you care.” That’s integrity; when we practice it, our lives are well lived.
Trail of Pain
When we benefit from questionable actions and non-ethical practices, we are also leaving behind a trail of pain caused to others. It is the law of nature that something else is going to suffer when another takes what doesn’t belong to them. Someone will price to pay for these actions. What happens in the dark will eventually be brought to the light. That’s guaranteed.
A Man’s Word is His Bond
Trust is an earned thing. If we are ever going to truly advance our families forward, it’s of the utmost importance that our word as men is not garbage. Show me a person who is untrustworthy, and I will show you a lonely person. There are critical moments in life that we absolutely need a friend to grab our hand and lift us up. Will any man grab yours when that time comes? Or will they simply say, “He’s getting what he deserves.”
