The Rideau Report

November 2022

Welcome to November!

Bonjour Rideau Families!

It is uplifting to see the students dressed in their Halloween costumes today! A lot of spirit at the school.

November's theme is Respect where we want everyone in our community to value others for who they are, to accept that each individual person is unique and special. We address others with kindness and we listen to what they have to say. We understand that respect is earned by our actions towards others. Respect also extends to nature as well as the things around us. If we take care of our environment, it will take care of us.

I know the possible job action from CUPE is a hot topic that is on everyone's mind. If you want to know more about it, follow this link which will take you to the Limestone information page on it. As the situation is fluid, information may change rapidly.

Update on construction: Although the project is far from being complete, we should be able to have access to the gym next week. Let's keep our fingers crossed. In the meantime, make sure students come to school dressed for the weather as gym classes are held outside, rain or shine. The entire project should be completed in December.

Students Council will lead the composting initiative at the school. We should start later this week after we distribute composting containers to classes.

Supervision - There is no supervision on yards until 8:50 in the morning. If you are letting your children play on the field or on the structure, they must be supervised by an adult.

Remembrance Day - We will have a virtual assembly on November 11. The link will be shared with families. Students are invited to dress in Black and Red for the occasion and wear their poppies.

November 16 - FCCC is closed for the day. Contact them directly for more details. / Lock Down drill in the morning. Teachers will explain the process to students. We don't want them to be scared, we want them to be prepared.

November 17 - Pink Shirt day for anti-bullying.

November 18 - Pajama Day. / Report Cards go home.

November 23 - Picture Retake Day

PA Day - November 25 is a PA Day, so there is no school for students, but staff have professional development.

When visiting the classes, I enjoy listening to the students practicing their French and telling me what they are learning about. The teachers are doing an amazing job at engaging students in new learning and helping them persevere with difficult tasks. As parents, you can encourage your child to not give up when the work gets hard and to push through, this is where growth happens.

Have a fantastic month of November!

Grow Garden

The Gardening Committee would like to thank Eco-Tree Care for donating mulch for our Grow Garden. With this donation, the garden is now ready to plant in the spring!

Thank-you as well to Mme Frappier's grade 6 students; Michelle, Elder, and Ruby; and Elise and Magnus for the amazing work preparing the bed for spring planting. If you are interested in volunteering to help with the school garden in the spring, please reach out to M. Himada at Another call for volunteers will go out in April.
