We choose Kindness!
When the stress of school and life begin to weigh on us, focusing on Kindness towards others can be incredibly impactful, and has the power to change the culture of a whole community.
At Proctor, we model kindness daily through our Positive Behavior Intervention Program, and the Be Kindness Project which promotes focusing on specific character traits each month. For the month of October, we will be focusing on how to Be Respectful. Students will be recognized on November 2nd, during our monthly Flag Assembly who exhibit this trait.
To partner together as a united school community, let's take a stand against hate. Please read the invitation below!

Proctor Halloween Parade
Halloween is right around the corner. We will be hosting our annual Halloween Costume Parade, on Wednesday, October 31st, from 8:15 - 9:15. You may remain on campus to view the parade without checking into the office. Once the parade is over, and you will be staying on campus to volunteer, or take part in classroom festivities, please visit the office to sign-in, and for a volunteer sticker.
As you plan for this day, families may want to know what is acceptable for costumes to make this a positive and fun environment for all. We ask for your support in helping students to comply with these rules.
- Costumes must comply with the school dress codes, be age-appropriate (no R-rated themes) and be respectful to others
- No blood or gore
- No full-face masks
- Students' costumes may not include pretend weapons and/or explosives. Toy guns, swords, knives, or martial arts weapons, etc., are not allowed and will be confiscated if brought to school.
- We are also asking for your cooperation in NOT allowing your children to dress up as clowns due to the possible disruption and fear it may cause. If anyone shows up with a clown-related costume, they will be asked to change
- Please help your student select costumes that support our efforts to provide a positive and fun environment.
A Message from our District Nurse!
Now that we are well into the school year, and the weather is getting colder, students are closer in contact with each other. This means lice cases are on the rise. Please take note about the following information, and pay close attention to the signs of head lice on your child, and how they can be transmitted!
Head Lice are tiny insects that need to feed off the human body to survive and live in the human scalp. Lice cannot fly or jump from one person to another, they can only crawl. Also, they do not live on dogs, cats or any other animals, only humans. Human lice hatch from eggs called nits. These tiny eggs are grayish-white, shaped like tear drops, and are attached to an individual hair shaft, near the scalp and cannot be brushed off like dandruff. Live lice are hard to see and should be looked for behind the ears and the back of the head – a hand held lens may be of assistance.
Head lice can be transmitted by:
• Direct contact with someone with active head lice
• Personal items such as combs, brushes, and other hair care items, towels and bed linens
• Clothing such as hats, ribbons, and other head cover
Signs of Head Lice: Intense itching and scratching of the scalp and the back of the neck. It helps to use a magnifying glass and natural daylight when looking. Closely examine the scalp, especially the ears. Look for the small, grayish-white or yellowish-white eggs attached to the hair. These nits can sometimes be mistaken for dandruff, but they cannot be easily brushed or blown away.

Proctor Walking Groups?
Safe Routes to School Bike Mobile! Friday, November 2nd!
We want to see more students and parents riding their bikes to school! We know bikes need a lot of maintenance and that’s why we’ve invited The Safe Routes to Schools BikeMobile to provide free tune ups for all parents, students and teachers at our school!
If your bike or your child’s bike is making one of those mystery sounds or collecting dust because it has a flat tire, bring it to school on Friday, November 2nd, between 1:45pm and 4:45pm in the lower parking lot near the Fire Lane. The BikeMobile can fix flat tires, adjust brakes and gears, and even replace broken or worn out parts like chains, seats, and tires. The only thing it can’t do is replace missing wheels or gears. While the mechanics work on your bike they’ll explain how it works and how to keep it running smooth.
Bike or no bike, everyone is welcome to attend to learn about maintenance, safety, and more! This is a first come, first serve event. We can only guarantee to fix the first 20 bikes that sign up, so please come early!
Would you like to help staff the event? We welcome parent volunteers who want to help with signups and repairs. To signup as a volunteer and to learn more about our great program log onto www.bike-mobile.org or contact psmith@alamedacountysr2s.org.
This service is offered through the Alameda County Transportation Commission’s Safe Routes To Schools program and is staffed by Local Motion.
