What's Happening in Your Math Class?
Three Read Strategy for Word Problems
The Three Read Strategy is designed to engage students in making sense of math problems or tasks. This strategy focuses the attention on the importance of understanding problems, instead of quickly trying to solve them. Word problems can be used from your Go Math curriculum, online, other resources, or you can write your own. Just take the question off and your stem is ready to use. Students enjoy this strategy because they are able to generate their own questions. This strategy also allows for natural differentiation.
I hope you have had the opportunity to try the Three Read Strategy in your classroom. The Guided Math Team will be doing a follow up at our staff meeting on Tuesday, February 5th. We can't wait to hear how it has been going in your classroom and answer any questions that you have. We will also be introducing 3-Act Tasks.
Number Talks
It has been great getting into different classrooms and seeing the growth students are making using Number Talks. Our students are engaged and look forward to explaining their reasoning with their classmates. Students enjoy learning mathematical content from each other. Number Talks promote productive struggle and allow students to be flexible with numbers by using a variety of strategies. How are Number Talks going in your classroom? Let me know how I can support you as you continue using Number Talks in your daily classroom routine.
