Stone Bank School
Reaching Out ~ May 20, 2016
From the Principal
Dear Stone Bank Parents:
May has been a busy month here at Stone Bank!
I couldn’t let the month pass without acknowledging the following people:
- Our tireless PTO, who coordinated special activities and meals to honor our teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week.
- Mr. Ktorides and Mr. Lovas for their hard work putting together our Spring band and choir concerts! Our students were magnificent!
- Our wonderful parents who take time away from their busy days to volunteer at our school. Activities like our book fair would not be possible without your help!
- Mrs. Wilson and Dr. Meissen are both retiring after long and successful careers in the field of education. We thank them for the contributions they have made to Stone Bank School. Their presence will be missed by many.
If you are moving over the summer, please be sure to contact the main office so that we can update our records and make sure your child’s records are sent on to the new school.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Davies
Music Class Talent Shows
As the school year winds down, it's time for our annual music class talent shows. Each 1st through 6th grade class will have their own talent show during one of its music classes from Tuesday, May 31st through Monday, June 6th. Singing, playing an instrument, acting, or dancing to music would all be appropriate acts. If your child would like to participate, you need not contact me. Simply make sure he/she is prepared with any materials needed for his/her act. Music can be brought in on a CD, mp3 player, flash drive, or the file can be emailed to me ahead of time. Parents are welcome to attend. This is a low-key event that was created to showcase the many talented students at Stone Bank School. Time permitting, students will be allowed to perform multiple acts.

Games Day! 2016
We will be holding our K-5 Games Day on Thursday, June 9th at Stone Bank School. This is a fun day of outdoor games and activities to celebrate the end of a great school year.
PLEASE consider joining us to help with the day’s activities. We are in need of several volunteers to facilitate the games students will be rotating through in the morning for 4th-5th grades and in the afternoon for 5K-3rd grades. Volunteer helpers will be contacted prior to Games Day with specific information about where their help is needed. We greatly appreciate the parents, grandparents and others who give their time to help make Games Day a success! (Last year, it was thanks to our AMAZING parent volunteers that the kids had a blast, despite having to move everything inside for the afternoon because of the weather! We couldn’t have done it without you!) Follow the link below to sign up to help, as well as to indicate whether you will be joining us for lunch. (*Note: Lunch will be provided at no cost to volunteers and is available to purchase for those who aren’t helping but want to come have a picnic lunch with your child that day.)

Following is an overview of the day’s activities:
8:45-10:45 - 4th and 5th Grade Games
10:45-11:35 - Picnic lunch and recess for K-5. Menu: hamburger or hot dog, chips, carrot sticks, pickles, cookie, watermelon.
11:40-2:00 – 5K-3rd grade students will rotate, by class, through game stations facilitated by parent volunteers, escorted by their classroom teacher.
2:00 – Students dismissed back to their classrooms.
Help keep your child comfortable during the day by dressing them appropriately (gym/athletic shoes – no crocs, flip flops or sandals), and sending sunscreen and plenty of water along.

4th of July Festival and Parade
Spring is just arriving, but the Lake Country Lions Club is already thinking summer and is planning for the 63rd annual 4th of July Parade and Festival! It will be here soon enough and the Club is looking for YOUR help!
Very simply, the Lake Country Lions Club (previously known as the Stone Bank Lions) has been coordinating the 4th of July Parade and Festival for many years, and each year its popularity and attendance grows. Of course, the Club is thankful that so many people get to enjoy the Parade and Festival, and wish for the enjoyment of this annual summer event to continue. However, it is becoming an event that more community involvement is REQUIRED if it is going to continue.
The Club requests that you, the community member who wishes for this tradition to continue on, to offer your time to volunteer to help produce the parade and festival. Only a few hours of your time on July 3rd and/or 4th will be needed.
Please attend the 4th of July parade and Festival meeting that will be held at Stone Bank School, May 21 to join in an open and candid conversation about how the 4th of July Parade and Festival can best be coordinated. We will be there with information and sign-up sheets from 10am until noon.
Of course the Lake Country Lions are always interested in growing our club memberships as well. Information about the Lions Club and membership possibilities will also be available.
As always, you are welcome to become a Fan and comment on the Club's Facebook page at
