Our September Assembly
From the Principal's Office
Dear Braintree Families,
We had our second all school assembly this week and it was a wonderful event full of celebrations and community caring. Our next assembly will be at the end of October and will include some costume fun. When planning for costumes, please keep them friendly enough for our youngest students to view and enjoy.
We have been working hard to keep our campus clean. A team of students worked to green up the campus today and found lots of food wrappers and a few cigarette butts. Please remember that tobacco and vape products are not permitted on campus at anytime. And, just as a reminder, alcohol and all weapons are also prohibited. We want this school to be a safe and healthy place for everyone to learn and play.
We are moving forward with our Farm to School initiatives this harvest season. Our youngest students made a batch of applesauce this week. Next week, our students will begin to harvest in our gardens with our Farm to School coordinator. We will be learning about water, soil, the lifecycle, and managing waste. We look forward to making fresh apple cider and starting a worm compost on campus soon.
Our school counseling team is up and running. Please read the Hello from the Counseling Team update below. Ms. Scoppe and Ms. Claire have been working to help students be successful and they are happy to connect with families to make sure students needs are met.
Make it a great weekend,
Heather Lawler
Principal

Hello From The Counseling Office Team!
Claire Bates (Ms. Claire) is happy to join our school’s team as school social worker. Her background involves helping children and families to overcome challenges including trauma and grief, leading groups, supporting communities, developing programs, and using creativity for healing purposes. Claire is new to Vermont and loves mountains, fresh local veggies, and being outside. She’s enjoyed meeting the brave, communicative, and caring children of our district.
Claire invites students and families to reach out to her to set up 1:1 sessions for students, to have students join a peer support group, or to have help connecting with outside resources to meet their family’s needs. Claire is also curious to hear about ideas for programs and events that can help support the needs of families at this school!
Cory Scoppe (Ms. Scoppe) is happy to join the Orange Southwest School District as school counselor. An RUHS graduate, Cory grew up in the Randolph area and is excited to be back working in the same district where she received her education. When she is not at school you can find Cory walking her dog Jojo, listening to podcasts and spending time outside.
At school Cory will be teaching classroom SEL lessons, running small groups on SEL topics (friendship, problem solving, self-regulation) and meeting with students 1:1. Parents are encouraged to reach out at any time.
Community Resources from the Counseling Team
The Counseling Office is highlighting these opportunities in our community this month:
Swimming Lessons through Vermont Tech Athletics
Opportunities to Connect Your Child to a Mentor (or to Become a Mentor Yourself) through Randolph Area Mentoring Program (R.A.M.P.) - Our office can also provide sign-up information.
Opportunities to Learn About the Advance Child Tax Credit - Please write to either of us to ask us to share the information about this that has been sent to our district.
Youth Launch Into Climate Justice - Sat, September 25 - An opportunity for interested youth (older elementary and up) to make a difference in the environment.
We will continue to share community resources with you. Please write or call us if you think of certain types of resources that would be helpful for your family.
