Binomial Nomenclature = Scientific Name
The first word is the Genus, the second word is the Species.
The two names identify relationships. The first is a general group and the second is a specific group. For example:

The genus Homo is from Hominids - Primates with 2 feet that walk upright. The species have specific characteristics for qualification.
Homo Habilis
- Is a hominid, walks upright
- Skeletal differences: The base of the skull is shorter and wider, the brain size is 500 to 800 cc
Homo Erectus
- Is a hominid, walks upright
- brain size is 750 to 1225 cc
-has proportionate limbs (arms and legs)
Homo Sapiens
- Is a hominid, walks upright
- Skull is higher and rounder
