Troop 2485 is holding a bake sale tomorrow. The Bake Sake will begin at 11:45 am dismissal and will continue throughout the day, so stop by for a treat on the way to your Parent Teacher Conference! The bake sale is to raise the money for Troop 2485 to buy Christmas gifts for a family we were matched with through the "Catholic Charities 2019 Adopt-A-Family Program"

Don’t forget to pick up your pies tomorrow in the school lobby.

Have a great week,

Ms. Kazan

December 1st- 1st Sunday of Advent

This Sunday, December 1st, marks the first Sunday of Advent. Advent is one of my favorite seasons in the Church and is often overlooked as Christmas has become more secular. In my family, we never decorated the house the day after Thanksgiving, but rather on the first Sunday of Advent. We begin to decorate our house with a creche (without the baby Jesus) and Advent wreath. We do not get our tree until much closer to Christmas.

In the Catholic Church, Advent is a period of preparation during the four Sundays before Christmas. The word Advent comes from the Latin advenio, "to come to," and refers to the coming of Christ. There are many wonderful rituals surrounding Advent. I have attached an Advent calendar for next week with some daily reminders, activities and prayers to do with your children .

I wish you all a blessed Advent.

Growth Mindset Thought of the Week

Report card time is a good time to check in with your child regarding their growth mindset. This self evaluation tool is great for middle schoolers and can be altered to use with younger students. It can start some productive conversations with your child.

Service Update

#GivingTuesday - Tuesday, December 3: Transfiguration School will host a "Charity Dress Down” to benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Society as they work to provide 50 local families with groceries and gifts cards to make their holiday season a little bit brighter.

Giving Tree - December 1 through December 13: In addition to the Giving Trees at the church, Transfiguration School will have its own Giving Tree to support St. Jerome’s Parish in the Bronx. Each tag will contain a child’s name, age/grade and gift suggestion(s).Wrapped gifts should be returned to school no later than Friday, December 13.

Loose Change for Soyapango: Members of the Parish Twinning committee recently visited the students to talk about our twin School of St. Joseph the Worker in Soyapango, El Salvador. Let's remember to keep collecting loose change, to recycle our water bottles for change, and most importantly to keep these children and their families in our daily thoughts and prayers.
