Standards and Timelines
Over the past few years, the New York State Education Department has been rolling out new or updated standards in a number of different subject areas. Some are changing all at once, while others are being introduced a few grades at a time. It can be hard to keep it all straight!
Click the links below to see when the standards are changing in the subject(s) and grade levels that you teach.
- English Language Arts
- Mathematics
- Science
- Physical Education
- The Arts (third page after title page)
- World Languages
Two additional notes:
- Double check the shifting dates against state assessments. For example, if you currently teach Grade 6 math, you should be using the Common Core standards next year, as those are the standards upon which the state assessments will be based.
- Other subject areas should already have made full shifts (e.g., Social Studies has shifted to the Framework, though the standards remain the same). If you have questions, please send them to scd@moboces.org, and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Project Based Learning
Project Based Learning is a model of instruction that works in both the Elementary and Secondary classroom. If you are looking for a way to spice up engagement, to garner student interest, to teach collaboration strategies, or to rework that unit that you just don't like teaching... this is the workshop for you! PBL is NOT a replacement for all of the good teaching that you do, but a model that you intentionally choose to implement when it makes sense to do so!
Join us this summer for an in-person experience and walk away with the foundation for a PBL experience that you can implement next fall.
Space is limited, so sign up now. We hope to see you there!

It's All Fun and Games Until You Can't Order a Cake!
Mrs. Cynthia Dite Sirni, a multi-certified teacher at RFA, spoke to the Grades 9-12 ELA Professional Learning Community last week, imparting much wisdom about writing, reflecting, and finding your own voice. Her delivery style, doused in humor, kept everyone laughing. Check out her most recent book, It's All Fun and Games Until You Can't Order a Cake! which is about the hilarious things kids do and say... especially in the past year.
