Morning Message
Today's Morning Message:
Roller coasters zigzag up and down.
- Say the words in the morning message, tapping your knees for each word. Count the words. Have children count the words.
- Write the sentence. Point to each word each word as you read it. Encourage children to say the words.
- Have the children circle and number each word in the sentence.
Reading
Giants Made by People
Vocabulary words: nonfiction, facts, ferris wheel, roller coaster, happy, frightened, anxious
Display the book cover. Read the names of the author and illustrator.
Review the photographs in the book. Focus on the nonfiction information in the box on each page.
Ask children which of the giants they have learned about this week are their favorites.
Invite children to describe giants they have made with blocks, manipulatives, pillows, sand or other materials.

Discuss pages 8 & 9. Talk about carnivals or fairs they have been to and have they ever rode the ferris wheel or a roller coaster? Which emotions did they feel before, during and after the ride?
Daily Literacy Practice
- Writing your name independently or without help
- Spell your name out loud all by yourself. Say the sound for each letter in your name.
- Review flashcards for letters Gg, Ww, Ll, Zz
- Show each flashcard and make the sound for each letter. Mix up the flashcards and test your children on each one. Use the cards to play memory and match the lower case letter to the upper case letter.
