NOVEMBER 17 Wilbur Words
November 17, 2023
MOUNTAIN OF LOST AND FOUND
We literally have a mountain of Lost and Found items!! We are placing them on tables and will have them out for conferences on Monday and Tuesday. Please take a look and take your child's items as we will have to clear them all out before Thanksgiving break!
THE BOOK FAIR IS COMING!
We will be having the Scholastic Book Fair here at Wilbur on December 4, 5, and 6! All classes will have assigned times when students who bring money to shop will be able to attend. We are offering an evening family shopping session from 4:00-6:00 on Tuesday, 12/5 as well! All families are welcome to come to shop anytime between 4:00 and 6:00 that evening. Car rider parents are able to get their student as usual from the MPR and then park to come on in.
WE NEED YOUR HELP! If you have any time that you can come in to help at the Book Fair on any of the listed dates, please email our librarian at jenae.priest@colonial.k12.de.us.
GRADE 4 STATE TESTING TO HAPPEN ON 11/30!
The state has decided to break up the grade 4 social studies state testing into three sections - one given in November, another in February, and the final part in May. Our first round will be on Thursday, November 30. Please make sure that your fourth grader is at school and on time for that day. We also need to avoid early dismissals as they must finish the test by the end of that day. Thank you in advance!
TIME FOR CONFERENCES!
Our first round of conferences are coming up! For fall conferences, our district calendar has set aside November 20 and 21 as conference days. There will be no school on these two days, as well as November 22-24 for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Our goal for conferences is to give you a clear picture of how much progress your child has made at each point in the school year. We also want to give you ideas and strategies for how you can help your child at home to master critical reading and math standards. If at all possible, we would ask you to have your child with you either during the Zoom conference or in person as they may be asked to demonstrate some of their learning for you!
Your child's teacher has sent the link for signing up for your conference time. Times are first come, first served. We encourage you to sign up for a conference with exploratory, intervention, and support staff by clicking the link below. You can sign up with any of these staff members to get an update on progress that your child is making outside of the regular classroom.
REMINDER: NO OUTSIDE FOODS
With the holidays coming up, I just wanted to remind everyone that, due to the allergies and the district Wellness Policy, outside foods may not be sent in for students to eat. Instead, if you want to treat the class, you can use the Classroom Snack form in the Resources section to have the cafeteria provide a special treat for your child's class.
WATER SHOULD BE THE ONLY DRINK SENT TO SCHOOL
Just a reminder that students should only be bringing in water to drink at school. Energy drinks, sodas, coffee, and other beverages should be saved for home use. Thank you!
PIK MY KID: THE WAY YOU NEED TO MAKE DISMISSAL CHANGES
This year, our school will be continuing the PikMyKid program to help organize the school car rider dismissal process and improve safety. This program uses a phone application downloaded onto your smart phone (found in the app store) and will allow you to notify the school of pick-up changes, authorize others to pick-up your child from the car line, and help organize the car line during pick-up. PikMyKid numbers DO NOT CHANGE FROM YEAR TO YEAR so, if you had a car tag last year, you will be able to use it this school year as well.
The registration process is easy and we ask that all parents register with the phone application as soon as possible, even if your child is a bus rider. All dismissal changes must be done through the PikMyKid app. Dismissal changes stop at 3:00 p.m. so we can prepare for a smooth dismissal and ensure that all teachers have been notified of changes. With almost 1100 students to get safely dismissed, there will be no exceptions to this rule. I'm sorry in advance for any inconvenience!
Several resources are included below to help you understand how to use the application and assist you with this transition. Please make sure you register with your personal current mobile phone number or the app will not allow you to access your child’s information for security reasons.
If you do not think the school has your mobile number on file or if your child does not appear in your app’s home page, contact support@pikmykid.com mailto:support@pikmykid.com after registration, with your child’s name, school, grade, and updated contact information for you.
Anyone who will be picking up your child will need to have your child(ren)'s PikMyKid number displayed on their dash. You will need to provide them with this information prior to them arriving at Wilbur.
