Principal's Message

We are off to a fantastic start to the school year. I love to feel the energy around the beginning of school. Students and staff are taking time to get to know each other and building community in their classrooms. I love seeing all the smiling faces as everyone arrives in the morning.

Our morning routine is the same as last year. Doors will open at 7:35. At that time students have two choices. They can go to the cafeteria for breakfast or head to the gym for our morning mindfulness time. Our classrooms will open at 7:50. If students arrive after 7:50 they can grab breakfast or head straight to their classrooms. Breakfast and lunch are free for all students.

Although our guidance around COVID has significantly lightened up I want to remind parents to keep their child home if they are not feeling well. Students should stay home if they have a fever, new cough illness, new difficulty breathing, diarrhea, vomiting, and headache with stiff neck and fever. Please follow this link for more detailed information on when to keep your child home and for how long: https://www.nsantiam.k12.or.us/Page/925

We encourage you to volunteer in your child’s classroom or go on a field trip this year. In order to do this you will need to complete our background check process. To do this you will need to visit the district website and look under quick links, click on volunteer, and fill out the volunteer application. You can also follow this link https://www.nsantiam.k12.or.us/Page/232. Everything is done electronically. This will take about 2 weeks before your application can be processed. Once you have been approved you are good to start.

Another great way to get involved is to join our Parent Teacher Club (PTC). Their first meeting is Wednesday, September 28th @ 4:00 in the library. Please consider joining us as we would love to get as many parents involved as possible.

I am confident that we will have an amazing school year. We could not do this without you!

School Picture Day is September 28th!

Please look in your child's Thursday folder for more details.

SES Parent Handbook

Please take a few moments to familiarize yourself with our district elementary handbook. It has been prepared to acquaint you with the basic policies and procedures of the North Santiam School District, inform you of the School's Code of Conduct and provide you with a reference for answering your general questions.

Hearing Screening Notice for KG Students

North Santiam School District provides group hearing screening for kindergarten children. The screening process consists of an initial screening for all kindergarten children in the Fall. If there is no hearing screen recorded in the student file of transfer students, their hearing will be screened as well.

Due to the large number of children who participate in the screening, we only notify parents if there is a concern with a child’s hearing. If you do not receive notice regarding your child’s hearing, it is because your child’s hearing is considered to be within normal range at this time.

We are pleased to be able to provide this service for your child. Please contact us at 503 769-2336 if you have any questions regarding screening services or talk with your school’s speech-language pathologist.

Sincerely,

Katie Grossen, M.S., CCC-SLP
