Breaking the Chain

The second year Health Science students are continuing to learn the importance of Infection Control by breaking the chain of infection and practicing steps of applying and removing PPE to protect the vulnerable. The second year students are progressing well and are excited to begin their clinical hours next month at Rosegate Assisted Living.

Senior Leadership is on display at Early Childhood Center

The Early Childhood Education program is a two year program that allows individuals to earn their Child Development Associate (CDA) certification. The CDA credential is the most widely recognized national credential in early childhood education. It is a key stepping stone on the path of career advancement. The program’s purpose is to enhance the quality of early child care by defining, evaluating, and recognizing the competence of early child care professionals across the country. Pictured below, CDA candidate Adelina Alvarez is leading a small group of students making various shapes with playdough. She has been volunteering extra time at the ECC to log enough hours to earn her CDA. Her classroom is so grateful for her extra help and dedication! Alexis Parrish is a first year senior. She has jumped right into the role of cadet teacher. Today she helped facilitate building activities in the block area during free choice time.

Everything but the kitchen sink

Officer Barney spent the day in the lab with his squad car to review the importance of having everything but the kitchen sink in your squad car as you never know what type of situation you might encounter on a daily basis...... It is amazing how his car is able to hold so much while also remaining so spotless and organized!

#ChangeitWCC

The Walker Career Center staff has selected our official hashtag for the year. #ChangeItWCC was inspired by our staff selecting their favorite quote. "If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude." Maya Angelou

Mr. Ross is racing into the new year

Mr. Ross has hit the ground sprinting this year with the Auto Collision Repair program. The class is currently working on restoring an old race car that was donated to the program. The plan is to be able to create a beautiful show piece for Walker Career Center programs that will be used at showcase and open house events. I look forward to highlighting the progress throughout the semester!

Energy Bars vs. Rice Crispy Treats

It was a battle of labs in Advanced Nutrition and Wellness this week. Students were busy creating either Rice Crispy Treats or Energy Bars. Always exciting to see the students collaborating and working together in the labs for a successful and delicious result!
