Pierce Downer This Week
Week of May 9-13
Pierce Downer Families-
It was great to experience some nice weather and sunshine this week! Our ABC countdown welcomed many fun days and our PD PTA hosted a wonderful ARTCOT event. This upcoming week, our K-6 students will begin or continue NWEA MAP testing.
At Monday evening's Board Meeting, Pierce Downer School was responsible for the flag salute and a brief presentation. I was so proud to see members of the PD Student Council sharing some of the great things they have done this year and parents from the PTA and playground committee showcasing the amazing work that is taking place with our families.
4th, 5th, and 6th grade students will be using recorders in music class. If your student has a
recorder at home, please send them with it starting on Monday!
Please remember the doors open each morning at 8:10 and class begins at 8:15.
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns via email LWagner@DG58.org or call 630-719-5860.
We are PD!

Sharing MAP scores with Students
In prior MAP administrations, students' scores were displayed on the screen immediately after they completed the assessment. While we believe it is important for students to understand their performance on assessments as it relates to their achievement and growth, we also want to ensure that the information they view is provided with context and support from their teachers and families.
Beginning this spring, students will no longer see their scores after completing the MAP tests; the scores will be sent home to families with report cards in June. In some cases, teachers may discuss scores with students as part of goal-setting or reflecting on the school year. If this does occur it will be part of a contextualized activity rather than simply displaying the student's score for them. This slight shift is a district-level change for this spring based upon feedback we have received from several past MAP administrations. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Justin Sisul, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction.

Safe2Help Illinois
District 58 has partnered with Safe2Help to give students a safe and confidential way to report potential threats or crises. Safe2Help was launched by the State of Illinois in December 2020 and aims to help prevent suicide, bullying, school violence and other threats to school safety.
With Safe2Help, students can connect with a trained crisis professional during their own crisis, or to report a potential threat. Students can submit a Safe2Help alert via the following ways:
- Website: https://app.safe22helpil.com
- Text: SAFE2 (72332)
- Phone: 844-4-SAFEIL (844-472-3345)
- App: "Safe2Help Illinois" app available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store
- Email: HELP@Safe2HelpIL.com
All alerts are responded to by a trained Safe2Help crisis professional. Safe2Help is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
District 58 staff are not the initial responders to the alert and will receive each alert after the Safe2Help professional provides support. District 58 staff will review alerts sent by Safe2Help during regular school hours, unless the nature of the alert necessitates immediate school action.
