November Highlights
November was a busy and fun, but quick, month in the Media Center! Mrs. Wickline had the pleasure of attending the Georgia Educational Technology Conference in Atlanta on November 4-6 where she got inspired and learned lots of new technology tools for the classroom! Also in November, the Student Attendance Reward Party was held November 2nd in the Media Center. This was a game time during all lunches!
Media Center Use
# of students who visited with a pass before school and during school in November
Our morning numbers continue to grow as students enjoy coming in to hang out before school! This time consists of not only games, school work, and book checkout; often students are hanging out at tables catching up with their friends. It is a busy, happy environment!
# of classes that scheduled the media center in November
Our largest patron group was the Social Studies department followed by Language Arts and Science.
# of classes taught by the Media Specialist
Mrs. Wickline taught an original Evaluating Web Sites lesson to AVID 8th graders as well as Cobb Digital Library Georgia Studies resources to Social Studies 8th graders.
Georgia Educational Technology Conference
GAETC is one of the highlights of any school year for me. I learned so much, but following are my three take-aways I'm most excited about using in future:
- Sway - a Microsoft Office 365 presentation tool that is so fun and engaging. It's sort of a cross between a PowerPoint, a Prezi, and a Glogster.
- Smithsonian Tween Tribune, Newsela, and ReadWorksd.org - great sites to help students and teachers find leveled texts
- Movenote - site for creating video tutorials for flipping the classroom or student presentations!
# of items circulated in the Media Center in November
Fiction and Graphic Novels were our highest areas of circulation, followed by nonfiction titles in Science.
# of new laptop carts that will circulate throughout the building
Four new laptop carts were made available in November! One will be housed in the Media Center, and the other three will be checked out through grade levels.
Thanksgiving Break
November 23-27
Thanksgiving Bags for Teachers
Students enjoyed coming in to the Media Center to write thank you notes to their teachers for Thanksgiving. Sponsored by the School Culture Committee, the gift bags were a tangible reminder of the appreciation students and colleagues have for them every day! The teachers were given the bags to take home as a memento the day before Thanksgiving Break.
