Week of November 4 - 8, 2019
Hello Sachems! Welcome Back!
I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend! As we enter the final week of Quarter I, I sincerely hope you are feeling a sense of accomplishment for the work you have been putting into your entire school experience. I hope you are feeling strong academically and ready to tackle your mid-semester exams, which will begin on Tuesday. Remember, you wear the Black and Orange and you need to know that strength will allow you to achieve anything you put your mind too. Remember, strength is how we define ourselves at MHS! I believe in you! I wish you the very best on these very important mid-semester assessments. Here are few items for the week ahead:
A special note of thanks and appreciation...
- BRAVO to the Speech and Theater Workshop for an OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE of "The Crucible". The cast and crew were amazing. Job well done, STW!
- Job Well Done!! To the Senior Class Officers….outstanding job in planning the Senior Mystery Ride on Saturday. The class was surprised and we had a complete blast!
- Congratulations to the MHS Golf Team who appeared in the Division II South Sectional Tournament and the South Shore League Tournament this week! You all made us proud!
- Congratulations to Noah Miles for being elected the SEMASC President Elect for the 2020 – 2021 School Year. We are so proud of you Noah.
- A special note of congratulations to Declan Hastings for his work and leadership in the planning of the SEMASC Fall Conference, which was held on Friday. It was a great conference!
- Congratulations to Owen Kidd for being named to the All New England Band Festival at Plymouth State University in New Hampshire, which will be held on November 25, 2019. Well done, Owen!
- Thank you to Olivia Austin and the amazing freshman team for their amazing help and voice at the Class of 2024 Open House last Tuesday evening. I was so proud of each of you and so happy to know you love being a Sachem.
- A note to congratulations to all of our fall athletes for a wonderful season. Each of you made contribution to making our school even better. It was awesome watching you play throughout the season! Thank you for being a Sachem!
- Congratulations to all of the students who took the SAT Exam on Saturday! Be confident that you will do well! We believe in you!
- Congratulation to Chris Cogan in placing first in the MIAA Multimedia Contest on Sportsmanship. Chris will be honored at Gillette Stadium on November 22, 2019. We are proud of you, Chris!
- Congratulations to the Girls Soccer Team who will begin their tournament play on Tuesday of this week again Norwell. You got this!
- Congratulations To the Field Hockey Team for their outstanding job on Wednesday at their tournament game. For the second year in a row…the Black and Orange made an appearance at this very important game. So proud of this team. We will be back!
- Congratulations to the Cross Country Team who performed very well at the Coaches Tournament Meet on Saturday. Many placed with medals. This talented team will now prepare for the Division 5 Meet next Saturday! A special note of congratulations to Shae Gallagher for going undefeated season within the South Shore League. Well done, Shae!
- Congratulations to Student Council for a outstanding job with the Halloween Fun Fest on Wednesday. A very large crowd...and a great deal of happy kids!
Character Strong - Advisory - NO ADVISORY THIS WEEK
Our next Character Strong Advisory will take place on Monday, November 18, 2019. Be sure to complete the weekly Character Dares!
Mid-Semester Exams are coming! Mark your calendars for November 5 & 6, 2019
Mid-semester exams are this week and it is important to know how the exam schedule will work. On Tuesday, November 5, mid-semester exams will take place for all Block 1 & 2 classes. Block 1 and 2 will be extended a bit to allow for maximum time in these exams. Please be reminded that November 5 is a full day of school. On November 6, mid-semester exams will take place in all Block 3 & 4 classes and all students will be dismissed at 11:00am. This early dismissal is only for the high school only. Be sure you begin studying.

Student Council Update
- Executive Board Meeting – Monday, November 4 – 6:00pm
- The next Student Council meeting will be held Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 7:00pm in the MHS Cafeteria. This is a CHANGE OF DATE due to the mid-semester exams schedule.
Open House - Class of 2024
The Nichols Middle School students and parents/guardians will have an opportunity to visit the high school and learn about the great things happening at MHS for our final Open House this fall on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 9:00am at Middleborough High School. Thank you to Olivia Austin and her team of freshmen who will be helping with open house dates.
Musical Auditions Begin - Shrek - November 4 & 5
The Music Department of Middleborough High School will proudly present "Shrek" in January. Auditions to be in the musical will take on Monday, November 4 at 4:00pm and Tuesday, November 5 at 2:00pm in the MHS Auditorium.

Mark Your Calendars - 21st Century Learning Conference - DIVE - November 22, 2019
- MHS is excited to launch the third annual 21st Century Learning Conference for all students on Friday, November 22, 2019. Information will be coming out shortly for planning.

The start of Winter Sports will be here before you know it. Here are some very important dates for you to place into your calendar if you plan on playing a winter sport.
- Winter Sports Registration on Family ID Opens - Monday, November 4
- Winter Sports Sign-Up Meetings - Thursday, November 14 - 2:00pm - MHS Gym
- Winter Sports Begin - Monday, December 2
- Winter Sports Parent/Guardian Meeting - MANDATORY - Thursday, December 5 - 7:00pm

Project Lead the Way - MHS Award Winner
Middleborough High School received the High School Achievement Award for earning a significant number of qualifying scores on the end of course assessment for Biomedical Science and Engineering. We are one of 18 high schools in the Commonwealth to receive this award. Well done, Sachems!
